WonderWorks Myrtle Beach – the iconic Upside-Down Building – is thrilled to announce the opening of its ART-OLINA: Youth Art Gallery of the Carolinas! This special gallery showcases the talents of budding young artists from North and South Carolina.
This year’s contest theme, “The Nature of STEM,” invites participants to creatively explore how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics connect with the natural world. From studying plants and animals to designing innovative tools for a better tomorrow, the theme celebrates the wonders of nature and the power of STEM.

For the third consecutive year, Surf City Middle School has students represented among the winners! Over the past three years, six talented students from our school have earned this prestigious honor.
This year’s winners are:
Evelyn Suh (8th Grade)
Harry Roy (7th Grade)
Remy Barrington (6th Grade)
Their incredible artwork will be on display in the ART-OLINA gallery for an entire year!
Additionally, as winners, these talented artists will receive 4 complimentary tickets to WonderWorks to visit the attraction and see their masterpieces on display.

From Mrs. May the Friday before break:
7th-grade math students created their own anchor charts in class today to review everything they have learned so far.

Mrs. Schmitz’s classes raced to answer as many questions as they could in 25 minutes. Head elves checked answers and everyone had fun!






6th graders did an AMAZING job decorating their doors this week! Congrats to Mrs. Warren (1st place) and Mrs. Hanusiak's (2nd place) classes for taking the top spots this year!






Mrs. Hill's classes enjoyed the band caroling yesterday!

The band students helped spread the holiday spirit by caroling around the building after their concert last week. Happy holidays from the bands!











Mrs. Hill’s 7th grade science class students are getting hands on and are being super creative as they create and label skeletons made out of q-tips. Some of them are even 3-dimensional with rib cages extending off the page!









Mrs. Botkin's classes had wonderful groups of 8th and 7th grade band students join us for some musical merriment before the winter break.




8th Grade had 17 Venture Entrepreneurship Certifications and 7th Grade 23 Certifications in Financial Literacy.



The Elf on the Shelf schooled the kids in some 4 Square this morning! **full disclosure- the elf is also the author of this post, so claims may be exaggerated**



7th Grade Career Explorations Everfi Financial Literacy Certifications. We had 24 students for B Day certify.
This financial literacy foundations course, sponsored by the MassMutual Foundation, teaches students how to effectively manage their finances, make sound decisions, and become financially responsible. Through a story-based narrative and interactive exercises, students learn to make real-life decisions about their personal finances, as well as how to achieve important goals around saving money, education and career planning, and budgeting.


8th Grade B Day Everfi Venture Entrepreneurship Certifications. We had 24 students certify and this is only B Day!
This financial education course guides students through their own personal journey of becoming an entrepreneur. Tasked with starting their own food truck business, students must create a balanced budget, make informed business decisions, and even perfect their business pitch. The course presents learning in a real-life context, using case studies and interactive business simulations to teach students how to think entrepreneurially in business and in life.

The sixth grade students had the opportunity to explore the Starlab dome last week. As they entered, they journeyed into the night sky, located constellations they had researched and retold myths associated with the constellations.
