On Friday, October 31st, our students attended the 1st Annual Healthcare Awareness Day at Burgaw Middle School, hosted by Pender County in partnership with UNC–Chapel Hill Health.
Our students gained hands-on experience with life-saving skills including:
✨ CPR techniques
✨ The Heimlich maneuver
✨ How to find their pulse
✨ Techniques for stopping bleeding from deep wounds
A special thank you to the high school students who served as instructors and to UNC–Chapel Hill Health for making this valuable healthcare awareness event possible! These are skills that could truly save lives.

8th graders are engineering medieval trebuchets while 7th graders build catapults, diving deep into the physics of siege warfare. Nothing like hands-on learning to understand how these ancient machines launched projectiles!
Meanwhile, 6th graders are taking flight! ✈️ They're exploring the principles of aerodynamics by building gliders, then testing and modifying their designs to maximize distance.
From medieval battlefields to modern aviation, our Grizzlies are learning that engineering is all about building, testing, and improving. Can't wait to see these projects in action!
