Grizzly eighth graders completed yet another piece of their NC Career Development Plan this week in Mr. Barbour's and Mr. Strong's classes. Ms. Bowman, Ms. Miller, Ms. McSwain and Ms. Simmons visited classes to help students define their work values. Work values are things like working conditions, opportunities for achievement or recognition, support and working with other people. Knowing which things are more important to students will help them make choices in high school electives, educational programs and careers that are a better "fit" for them. Students stored their choices in a high school Google Classroom. Ask them to show you their plan!

This week Mr. Odom's students have been progressing on their projects. 8th Grade is building towers to test for structural efficiency and 7th Grade is building bridges also to test for structural efficiency. 6th grade is working on their first big project while practicing some math while building tetrahedral kites!

There was a great turnout at the PCS Marching Band Showcase last night.

The following middle schools were present: Burgaw Middle, Cape Fear Middle, Topsail Middle and Surf City Middle. The following high schools performed their shows: Pender High, Topsail High and Heide Trask High.

Cape Fear Middle received the audience choice award. Great job Grizzlies!!!!!

Thank you to all our families that came out to this evening's Curriculum/Title 1 Night. We hope you enjoyed meeting our fall athletes and our BETA Club members, meeting with your student's teachers and learning what they are during in class, and picking up progress reports.

The past week Mrs. Mills, Ms. W, and Mrs. Merritt's classes visited the library. Mrs. Mills and and Ms. W's classes went through beginning of the year library orientation and checked out books. Mrs. Merritt's classes participated in a genre activity and then checked out books for the 40 book challenge.

In recognition of Constitution Day this past week, Mr. Barbour's classed did a simulation where they either drafted, debated, and upheld bills to become law or argued the constitutionality of laws through various I-Civics games.

Throughout the school this morning, students were participating in enrichment activities for our Grizzly Time. Students have the opportunity at the beginning of the year to pick from different activities such as BETA Club, Legos, weight training, color guard and arm wrestling club to just name a few (pictured below).

✅ Encourage handwashing and covering coughs/sneezes
✅ Keep your child home if they have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea
✅ Follow return-to-school guidelines for contagious illnesses like strep, pink eye, or chickenpox
