Sing. Play. CREATE!
Performance skills carry over from a student’s fine arts education to other facets of their life. Students learn how to be confident in front of a crowd. They practice how to handle themselves on stage and continue their performance even when things don’t go as planned. These skills provide our students with confidence for other moments in their academic and social lives.
1st Graders in music had the opportunity to create their own rhythmic composition and perform them in front of class on an instrument of their choice! The focus was spring time and all of the changes that happen throughout the season. Their compositions were completed all alone with little guidance. These students really out did themselves. Maybe in a few years we will listen to their music on Spotify or Pandora!

Be on the look out for our new School Spirit order forms that are coming home this week.

Mental Health Matters!!
That's why in the music room at the beginning of class we do a mindfulness activity. Mindfulness meditation, at its simplest, is paying attention to what is happening in the present moment. Students come up in front of class and play the Tibetan singing bowl. Everyone participates in a breathing exercise to make ourselves aware of our surroundings before instruction begins. Not only does the fine arts give an avenue for self expression, but also a place where students social and emotional learning is key. Take a look at this kindergarten student eager and excited to play the singing bowl!

We are kicking off our One Book One School this week with a 5 Day Kindness Challenge. Throw kindness around like confetti!

Performing Arts and Visual Arts are so important for everyone. There is a heap of incontestable research showing that an education rich in music and art improves students' cognitive function and academic performance. Take a look at this 1st Grader who is excited to play this tenor xylophone!

The Pender High School Beta Club will be hosting a Daddy/Daughter Dance for ages 0-8th Grade on Saturday, April 9th. March Madness... but make it art!
Check out these awesome 4th graders in Ms. Morley's class presenting their artist research projects. Each student researched and put together a presentation for their artist. Then the class is voting to find out who the favorite artist for each class will be!

CFES Spring Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 29th.

Ms. Hanson's groups read books today about seeing pictures and shapes in the clouds. The weather helped considerably with being able to make connections and experience things along with the book characters.
