Meet Richard Collins, Veteran 6th Grade Teacher at Topsail Middle! 📚✨
With an impressive 40.5 years of teaching experience, Mr. Collins brings wisdom and dedication to his 6th-grade classroom at Topsail Middle. His inspiration? A teacher and mentor who set him on the path to education. Throughout his career, he’s found a passion for teaching computer science, a subject he loves sharing with young minds. 💻🌟
One of his proudest accomplishments? Seeing two of his former students return to the same school as teachers—a true testament to his influence and dedication over the years.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Collins enjoys swimming and taking his family out to dinner. 🍽️ He’s also an avid creative writer, with a fantasy novel under his belt and an active membership in The Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators. 📖✒️
Mr. Collins shares a home with a unique crew: a horse named Cloud and two cats that he and his family adore. 🐾
When it comes to travel, Yosemite National Forest tops his list of destinations he’d love to visit. 🏞️
Guided by two personal mottos, “The measure of your intelligence is not the questions you can answer, but the ones you ask,” and “Nothing succeeds like success,” Mr. Collins continues to leave a lasting impact on each of his students. 🌟

The TMS band embraced the Halloween spirit with their Halloween concerts. 7th grade band was Monday and 8th grade was Wednesday at THS. Great job Pirates! Looking (and sounding) great!
Please remember that TMS is a peanut-free campus. With all of the Halloween candy around for the next couple days, please help us protect our students with peanut allergies. Please make sure that any candy that comes to school does not contain peanuts. Thank you. Go Pirates!

Our 8th grade band members have been busy participating in several events this month! They played the National Anthem at the Pirate Classic and played with the high school band at their last home football game on Friday! Come support their Halloween concerts this week! 7th graders will perform in the TMS Auxiliary gym at 6pm tonight, Monday October 28th. 8th Grade band members will come together with Surf City Middle at the THS auditorium at 6pm this Wednesday, October 30th, to perform their Halloween Concert. Come support our Pirates tonight and Wednesday.
English 1 students in Mrs. Nicholson and Mrs. Vergenez classes are beginning their passion projects. Today they learned that research in 6 steps will be a longer process than they thought. Students worked on topics they were interested in using Ebsco databases for credible resources. Some topics discussed were about how humans are affecting and impacting ocean animals and environments . 8th graders have "big" thoughts about our future!
TMS community: At approximately 1pm, one of our staff members noticed a potential concern in the main gym. Out of an abundance of caution, TMS went into shelter-in-place while emergency services assessed the situation. The issue has been addressed and we have been cleared to return to normal operation.
