🌱💙 Teacher Tuesday: Ms. Tammy Meadows — Surf City Elementary

Ms. Tammy Meadows teaches at Surf City Elementary and has more than seven years of teaching experience. Colleagues describe her as welcoming, professional, and someone who brings a positive attitude to the classroom each day.

Ms. Meadows looks for ways to make learning hands-on and meaningful for her students. One example is a "garden center" she created to help children learn about growing food while also practicing responsibility and commitment. Activities like this give students opportunities to learn new skills and understand the importance of caring for something over time.

What stands out about Ms. Meadows is the care she puts into her classroom and the relationships she builds with those around her. One colleague shared how much they've learned from working alongside her and appreciates her willingness to share ideas and support others.

Today we wore wacky socks to show that we’re healthy from head to toe. We make good choices by choosing healthy habits to help us grow strong, stay focused, and feel our best.🧦🐢❤️

Today we wore RED to show that Sea Turtles make healthy choices and take care of our bodies and minds! From eating healthy foods and staying active to being kind and making safe choices, every little decision helps us grow happy, healthy, and strong! 💪🐢❤️

Our first graders combined creativity and a love of reading with a fun fall Pumpkin Book Report project! Students read a book and decorated a pumpkin to look like one of the main characters. What a fun way to celebrate reading and creativity! 📖🧡

Check out Mrs. Emery's first graders! They're bringing reading to life with Reader’s Theater. It helps them build fluency, practice expression, and grow their confidence as they read and perform with classmates.🎭📚

Red Ribbon Week is a time to help students learn about making safe, healthy, and positive choices. That means encouraging children to take care of their bodies, make good decisions, choose positive friendships, and know they can always turn to a trusted adult when they need help.

Let’s fill our school with RED and celebrate making choices that help us be our very best!

🔍 Push or Pull? Ms. Wiggins’ kindergarten scientists are exploring force and motion! Students worked with partners to examine pictures, decide whether each showed a push or a pull, and sort them on a chart. Through teamwork and discussion, these young scientists discovered how forces make things move! 🔬💡

We're happy to share with you that Sura from Ms. Powell's 3rd grade class is our Sea Turtle of the Week! Sura, your school is proud of you. 💙🐢💚

Mrs. Montaruli’s Kindergarten class has been working on counting forwards and backwards. To practice counting backwards students played a game called “one less” where they rolled a die and counted back one to cover a number on a game board. Great work, mathematicians. 🔢

Today in Mrs. Allen’s class, second grade students spent Fundations in teams racing to create the most words from a list of base words and suffixes. Then they got super excited to receive their first pen pal letters from the 8th grade Family and Consumer Science Class at SCM! Students couldn’t wait to start their responses!
