This week Ms. Pleasant's Pre K class is learning all about the letter X! ✨ They've practiced recognizing the letter X, making the X sound, and finding words that begin with X. Having fun learning and exploring new letters together! 💛🩻
Can paper become a roller coaster? 🎢✨ Our 5th grade AIG team said YES — months of teamwork, sketches, and test runs led to paper marble coasters that kept marbles rolling for impressively long times. This morning they tested them to see which design kept the marble rolling the longest — and the results were amazing! 🏆🛠️ Congratulations to Carter, Henry & Elijah with a time of 42.79 seconds.

Ms. Trudy Carmichael is a teacher at Surf City Elementary and has been with the school for three years. Families and staff share that she creates a classroom where students feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn. She builds strong relationships with her students and sets clear expectations, helping them grow both academically and personally. Many of her former students return to visit, which speaks to the connection she builds.
Ms. Carmichael also works closely with families. She communicates regularly and makes sure parents feel informed and included in their child’s progress. Families say they trust her and appreciate the care she shows their children each day.
What stands out most about Ms. Carmichael is her commitment to growing as an educator. While teaching full time, she is also working toward a degree in school administration. She supports her team by helping beginning teachers, sharing resources, and offering guidance when needed. She also works with a student teacher in her classroom, helping them learn day-to-day teaching practices.

There will be two in person meetings for the families interested in band class for next year at Surf City Middle. One meeting will be on 4/22 and the other will be 4/29. Both meetings are at 6pm until 7pm. All information regarding band class will be given out at this meeting as well as your student can reserve their own instrument! Instruments are delivered at the beginning of each school year. Even if you have your own instrument, come to one of the meetings and let Mr. Judy know!
