The annual Yearbook Cover Art Contest is underway! Information is going home with students this week, and entries are due to Mrs. Laura Black by Friday, October 24th. The winning artwork will be featured on the front cover of our 2025-26 yearbook and the winner will receive a FREE yearbook!

🌟 Feature Friday: Adriana Perez🌟

This week we’re proud to recognize Ms. Adriana Perez, Family Liaison & Student Support at Rocky Point Elementary School. Adriana has been a dedicated part of the Rocky Point community for years, first as a supportive parent and stakeholder, and now in her vital role as Family Liaison. With so many Spanish-speaking families at RPES, Adriana serves as a translator for parents and students, ensuring that language is never a barrier to engagement. From Curriculum Night to Winter Concerts to Hispanic Heritage Night, she plays a key role in connecting families to their school community.

One of her biggest contributions has been helping coordinate the annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration, held each October. She works closely with families and community partners to highlight culture and tradition, including helping organize Rocky Point’s “Bailadores del Sol” dance group, where students learn and perform Hispanic dances for the school community.

Adriana’s influence extends well beyond events. She is known for her warmth, kindness, and willingness to help with anything—from translating in classrooms, to supporting students in the hallway, to calling parents and encouraging engagement. Her positive energy shines daily, making Rocky Point Elementary a stronger, more connected school community.

Our 4th graders have been hard at work in Wit & Wisdom! They have been studying about the difference between literal and figurative writing by comparing how our heart works to how our heart can be used descriptively in literature. They've also started studying poetry and wrote their own poems in the style of William Carlos Williams. #OnePender

1st Grade has been learning all about unpitched percussion instruments in music. Students had the opportunity to pick their favorite instrument and improvise along with a Jamaican folk song! #OnePender

2nd Grade is learning all about change! Ms. Stewart's students split into small groups to investigate details about how the seasons change. They worked together, looking for details to support what changes that leaves and trees experience during each season. If you want to learn more, here are some of the texts that the students have read:

Congratulations to our Golden Ram Teachers of September! Ms. Kerler, Ms. Bassano, Ms. Shaw, and Ms. Ward have shown creativity, leadership, mastery of curriculum, and advocacy for our students. In 3rd grade we are learning about Tribal, Local, and State Government in Social Studies right now. Today we completed a fun Voting Scenarios Activity where they had to collect class votes - the students enjoyed the voting process! Which ones would you vote for?

Are you ready for a fun day on the farm? 🐷🐓🐴 Join us on Saturday, September 20th (tomorrow!) from 11am-6pm for food, fun, games, and a corn maze! 🌽 Admission is only $10, and children under 3 are admitted for free. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Special Olympics of Pender County. We can't wait to see everyone at Tate Farm by the Pond - 5514 NC Hwy. 11, Willard, NC 28478 - as we enjoy fall fun and support the students of Pender County Schools! #OnePender

Did you know that not every place in the world has libraries? For more remote places, citizens have to get creative about how to share books and instill a love of reading in children! 1st grade has been reading the books "Waiting for the Biblioburro" and "My Librarian is a Camel." Could you imagine getting your next novel from an animal? #OnePender

Third grade has been learning all about the sea in Wit & Wisdom! Students have been reading literature, such as "Amos & Boris" by William Steig and studying works of art centered around water. Next up? Jacques Cousteau! #OnePender
