Good evening West Pender Middle School families, this is Principal Garza with your Weekly Warrior message. Our first bell rings to dismiss to homeroom at 7:40AM and our tardy bell rings at 7:45AM. Any student that arrives after 7:45AM will need to check in through the front office with a parent or guardian; our car rider entry will not be supervised after that time.
September is Suicide Prevention Month. To proactively bring awareness our fabulous counselor, Mrs. Hopkins, will educate students on suicide prevention through classroom guidance lessons. If you do NOT wish for your child to participate in the Suicide Prevention lesson, please sign the waiver and return it to WPMS on or before September 15, 2022 . If we do not hear from you, we will assume your child has permission to participate in this lesson. Please contact Brenna Hopkins at brenna_hopkins@pender.k12.nc.us for more information.
Free & Reduced Lunch: A reminder that school lunches are not free for everyone for the 2022-23 school year and there is not a 30-day grace period from last year's status. Meal charges began on the first day of school. You must apply for Free/Reduced lunch by following this link: www.pender.k12.nc.us/page/dining If you have any questions please see the attachment and for more information please contact Rita Head at rita_head@pender.k12.nc.us or 910-663-3550.
WPMS PTO: Our WPMS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) invites all parents and teachers to come out and vote for the WPMS PTO Slate of Officers this Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 5:30PM - 6:00PM in the WPMS Media Center. Please see the attachment to this message for more information on each of the candidates.
WPMS Athletics: We have two athletic events scheduled for this week. On Tuesday, September 13th our Softball players will have their first game of the season at Pender Memorial Park in Burgaw. This game starts at 4:00PM. On Wednesday, September 14th, our Football players will have their first game of the season at Penderlea School. This game starts at 4:30PM. We hope to see you all there!
iReady Diagnostic Testing: On Wednesday, September 14th, all 6-8th grade students will begin the iReady beginning of the year diagnostic assessment in Reading. Our students were focused and determined last week and tackled the math assessments with much grit. A reminder that we complete these beginning of the year assessments to determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction. See attached parent letter for more information.
