Weekly Warrior Message from Mrs. Garza

Good evening West Pender Middle School families, this is Principal Garza with your Weekly Warrior message.

We had a very successful 1st week of school and we look forward to starting our second week with just as much success. Our first bell rings to dismiss to homeroom at 7:40AM and our tardy bell rings at 7:45AM. Any student that arrives after 7:45AM will need to check in through the front office; our car rider entry will not be supervised after that time. Just a reminder that on Monday, September 5, 2022 WPMS will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Free & Reduced Lunch: A reminder that school lunches are not free for everyone for the 2022-23 school year and there is not a  30-day grace period from last year's status. Meal charges began on the first day of school. You must apply for Free/Reduced lunch by following this link: www.pender.k12.nc.us/page/dining If you have any questions please see the attachment and for more information please contact Rita Head at rita_head@pender.k12.nc.us or 910-663-3550.

WPMS PTO: Our WPMS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) invites all parents to come out and vote for the WPMS PTO Slate of Officers on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 5:30PM - 6:00PM in the WPMS Media Center. Please see the attachment to this message for more information on each of the candidates.

iReady Diagnostic Testing: On Wednesday, September 7th, all 6-8th grade students will begin the iReady beginning of the year diagnostic assessment in Math. i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.See attached parent letter   for more information.

Transportation: As we begin our new school year, a few reminders regarding bus transportation:

  1. Please allow a ten-minute grace period for the bus to arrive in the morning and drop-off in the afternoon.

  2. We ask that students follow all hand signals that bus drivers make before crossing the street.

  3. Students may only board the bus in the mornings and get off the bus in the afternoons from their assigned stop locations.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding transportation, please reach out to Dr. Tasheka Jordan, our Assistant Principal via email: tasheka_jordan@pender.k12.nc.us
