WEST PENDER, NC – In a heartwarming display of generosity during the season of giving, West Pender Middle School has received a $1,077.40 donation from none other than one of its own staff members. Ken Smith, a first-year Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher at WPMS and a newly elected Pender County Commissioner, presented the contribution as a token of his belief in the school’s mission and leadership.
Smith explained to Principal Paige Garza that the donation was motivated by his admiration for the work being done at WPMS and his confidence in the school’s direction. “I see the incredible dedication of this school every day,” Smith shared. “This donation is my way of showing my support—not just as a teacher, but as someone who believes in this community and its future.”
Principal Garza expressed her gratitude for both the financial contribution and Smith’s ongoing support as a member of the WPMS family. “Ken Smith is an invaluable asset to our school—not only in the classroom but as a community advocate,” Garza said. “His generosity reflects his genuine commitment to education and the students we serve. We are truly grateful for his belief in our work and his willingness to give back in such a meaningful way.”
Smith’s unique dual role as an educator and county leader has allowed him to connect with students and staff on multiple levels, reinforcing his commitment to the success of West Pender Middle School.
This act of kindness comes at a particularly meaningful time, as schools and communities across the country reflect on the spirit of the holidays. Smith’s donation underscores the importance of giving back and investing in the next generation.
West Pender Middle School, its students, and staff are thankful for Smith’s contribution and are inspired by his unwavering dedication to education and the community.
For WPMS, this generous gift is more than just a financial boost—it is a powerful reminder of the impact that comes when educators and leaders work together to make a difference.
