Solar Eclipse: As you may already be aware, on Monday, April 8, 2024, an extraordinary astronomical event will occur—a total solar eclipse will be visible across North America. While this presents a unique learning opportunity, our foremost priority is the safety of our students. In Pender County, we will experience a partial solar eclipse, with 77% of the sun obscured at the peak of the event. The eclipse will begin at approximately 1:59 pm, reach its maximum coverage at 3:15 pm, and conclude around 4:28 pm. Given the timing of the eclipse, we will take measures to ensure no student looks directly at the sun during this period, especially during recess and dismissal time. Directly viewing the sun, even during an eclipse, without proper eye protection can cause severe eye damage. As such, we want our students to be aware that it is never advisable to look at the sun directly during a solar eclipse without wearing proper eye safety equipment. Additionally, NASA provides an Eclipse Explorer which will allow you to see when and where the partial solar eclipse will affect any zip code in North America.
iReady Testing: This Wednesday through Friday, all warrior students will begin their end-of year iReady Diagnostic testing. We ask that you ensure that students arrive on time to school each morning, have a quality night’s rest, and are encouraged to do their best. We use these diagnostic assessments to plan strategic review for our End of Grade (EOG) exams and use the data to make informed decisions about academic support in the following school year.
