Pender County, NC - Students from across Pender County converged for the annual Middle School Battle of the Books competition, organized by the North Carolina School Library Media Association. The event showcased the literary prowess of participants as they engaged in a quiz-bowl-style tournament, demonstrating their knowledge of 20 books selected by state Battle of the Books committees.
Surf City Middle School emerged as the champions this year, securing the top spot with an impressive total of 150 points. Topsail Middle School followed closely behind in second place with 124 points, while Cape Fear Middle School claimed third place with 104 points. Cape Fear Middle School graciously hosted the event, providing an ideal backdrop for intellectual battles and literary camaraderie.
Special recognition is extended to Mr. Simmons and his team for their dedicated support and meticulous organization, as well as to Karei Swift, a Follett Senior Sales Consultant, whose moderation ensured a fair competition. The schools and coaches are also applauded for their advocacy for literacy, and heartfelt thanks go to the parents and students for their hard work and dedication.
