This past weekend, our Beta Club members embarked on a journey to Greensboro to showcase their talents and compete in various categories at the National Beta State Convention. National Beta, an organization dedicated to fostering high academic achievement, strong character traits, leadership skills, and ongoing service to others, provided the perfect platform for our students to demonstrate their abilities.
Under the guidance of sixth-grade teacher Cassidy Miller, students have diligently prepared for these events since the start of the school year. The Beta members showcased their skills across a wide array of categories, including living literature, robotics, visual arts, woodworking, painting, mixed media, and more. It's been an enriching experience for all involved.
Among the standout performances, sixth-grade student Maria Devane deserves special recognition for her impressive fourth-place finish in the Digitally Enhanced Photography category, competing against a field of at least 15 entries from across the state.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the convention also provided a valuable opportunity for our students to connect with Beta members from across North Carolina, fostering friendships and camaraderie that will endure beyond the event.
We're immensely proud to announce that West Pender Middle School has been named a Beta School of Distinction for the 2023-2024 academic year, recognizing our commitment to excellence in Beta Club activities. Additionally, we're honored to have been recognized as a Beta School of Merit for the same period. Furthermore, we're thrilled to share that we welcomed 38 new members into our Beta Club this year, marking the largest inducting class in our school's history.
Congratulations to all our Beta members for their outstanding achievements at the State Convention. We're already looking forward to another successful year of competition and camaraderie at next year's event!
