Dear West Pender Middle School Families, Good evening, this is Principal Garza with your Weekly Warrior Message. We're thrilled to share the latest news from our Warrior community. Here's what you can expect:

  • New Student Check-Out Protocols: In our ongoing efforts to enhance the educational experience and maintain a strong focus on instruction from bell to bell, we are implementing a minor adjustment to our dismissal procedures. Starting Monday, October 16th,  the check-out time for students will be at 2:30 PM, which is 30 minutes prior to the scheduled end time at 3:00 PM. We believe this change will allow us to maximize instructional time and ensure a smoother and safer dismissal process for all. If, for any reason, you need to check out your student after 2:30 PM, we kindly request that you communicate this with your child in advance, informing them that they will be a car rider. You can then proceed to enter the car rider line for a timely pick-up.

  • Community Tutoring: If you feel that your child could benefit from additional academic support, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is offering tutoring for students in grades 6-8. Tutoring sessions will take place at the Burgaw Senior Center, Heritage Place, 901 South Walker Street, Burgaw on Wednesdays after school, starting from Wednesday, October 4th. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.   • Athletic Updates: For our sports enthusiasts, exciting action is on the horizon, both on our home turf and beyond. Softball Games this Week:

  • Date: Monday, October 9th & Thursday, October 12th

  • Time: 4:00PM

  • Location: Topsail Middle School & Penderlea

               Football Games this Week:

  • Date: Wednesday, October 11th

  • Time: 4:30PM

  • Location: Penderlea

Soccer season begins October 19th. There will be tryouts for both boys and girls soccer on October 19th and 20th. All students must have an up to date physical on file in addition to a district eligibility form and concussion form. 

Last but not least, we want you to save the date! Thursday, October 26th, 2023 we will host our second annual curriculum fair. All families are invited to an evening of family fun. We will be providing food and games for everyone. There is no fee to attend this event, we just ask that all students are escorted by an adult. No students should be dropped off at this event without adult supervision.  We cannot wait to have an evening of fall fun with our entire warrior community!
