Good evening West Pender Middle School families,

This is Principal Garza with our Weekly Warrior update. We have just a few announcements to share with you for this week: 

1. Diagnostic Testing: This week we will continue our diagnostic testing. All students will participate in iReady diagnostic testing for both math and reading. These assessments at the start of the year are designed to be challenging, helping us identify areas of growth and improvement. We encourage parents to support their students by reassuring them that it's okay to find these tests challenging, and the important thing is to give their best effort.

2. Cell Phone Expectations: We want to inform you about an important behavior expectation at our school regarding the use of cell phones and wireless devices. This expectation falls under the "R" for Responsibility in our Warrior POWER acronym. Cell phones and other wireless devices should be kept off and out of sight while on school property. If a student is unable to adhere to this expectation their cell phone may be confiscated by the teacher and returned at the end of class. Refusal to comply will result in confiscation by an administrator, and a parent or guardian will need to visit the campus to retrieve it. We firmly believe that students have the right to disconnect from personal devices during the instructional day. If they need to make a call, our school provides accessible phones for their use. It's important to note that cell phones can be a distraction and are considered personal devices that teachers shouldn't be responsible for monitoring. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in supporting a focused and effective learning environment for all students.
