Weekly Community Message from Mr. Lawrence

May 1, 2022

Good evening Topsail Middle families, this is Mr. Lawrence with this week's community message.  Parents, just a reminder that checkouts end for students at 2:00 pm daily.  Please be sure to plan accordingly if you need to check your student out from the campus.  We hope that families consider volunteering on May 10, 12, and May 17 for end-of-year proctoring.  You will be able to find a signup genius within this email.  You can always contact our testing coordinator, Mrs. Erin Rady, for more information regarding test proctoring at TMS.  We have a number of new announcements this week so please be sure to check your email or our school website for this week's community message.

  • Attention Parents, we need your will help to assist Topsail Middle with state mandated testing on Thursday, May 12.  Proctors will need to arrive on campus at 7:00 am and be prepared to be on campus until around 11:00 am.  You can use this link to sign up to be a proctor.  As you may already know, these state tests are given at the end of each school year and it takes the collaboration of many people to complete them successfully.  We truly could not do this without parental and community support.

  • End of the year important dates: May 19 from 9-11 moving up ceremony for 8th grade at the Stadium, May 20 awards ceremony for 5th grade starting at 8:00 am in Aux gym, last day for students is May 20.

  • The Spring Band concert will take place at the Topsail High School auditorium on Monday, May 9.  The 6th grade concert will begin at 6:00 pm, with the 7th and 8th grade bands to begin around 6:45.  Mr. Norem has asked for all band students to arrive at the high school about 20-30 minutes before the beginning of the concert they are performing in.

  • Parents, with the end of the school year just a few weeks away, just a reminder that all Chromebooks and chargers will need to be turned in during the last week of school, at the conclusion of state testing on May 18.

  • Parents, we need your help with ensuring bus assignments for the 2022-2023 school year.  Our goal is to have all of our TMS parents complete this survey prior to May 9.  Even if you are planning to not have your child ride a bus next year, please take a couple of minutes to complete the survey:  Student Ridership Survey 2022-2023 School Year

  • Attention any parents living outside of the TMS district.  We are currently accepting applications for reassignment that you can complete online using this link for the 2022-2023 school year.

  • Attention Parents, the Pender Mobile Dental clinic is now at Topsail Middle School until July 22.  The clinic provides routine and basic dental treatment to ALL interested students, parents, and staff.  If you would like to take advantage of the dental services they provide, parents and staff can call the mobile for an appointment and students can ask his/her teacher for a form.  A parent must complete the form and have your child return it to our school nurse.  Please be aware that they make every effort to treat your child during elective classes so they are not missing out on core class instruction.  If you have questions or would like more information, please call the mobile at 910-470-3250 or 910-279-3204.

  • Attention parents: please be sure to update your child’s information using Scribbles for the next school year.  It can be found under the “Enrollment” tab on the PCS website.  You will need to create an account if you have never used Scribbles before.

  • Parents, in accordance with board policy, all students on crutches, scooters, etc should have a medical appliance form signed by the HCP and Parent before returning to campus with these devices.  We have linked the form to this message for your convenience.

  • Parents, please remind students to return all library books to the media center this week.

  • Please be sure your student brings a charged chromebook everyday during testing week.  Please also bring your charger each day to school.  If you have lost chargers, contact Mrs. Engle.
