Good evening Topsail Middle families, this is Mr. Lawrence with this week's community message. Parents just a reminder that we will not have school this Friday, April 15 in observance of Good Friday and also no school on Monday, April 18 for a teacher workday. All parents who drive on the Topsail campus, just a reminder to please use extreme caution during arrival and dismissal as we have over 3,000 students on our campus daily with some of our High School students utilizing our tennis courts for parking each day. We have a number of new announcements this week so please be sure to check your email or our school website for this week's community message.
Attention parents, Friday April 22 will be a Job Shadow day for all interested students in PCS in grades 7-12. This means students will have the opportunity to job shadow an adult on this day to learn first-hand knowledge about their workplace and explore future career opportunities. All students participating on this day will have an excused absence for an educational opportunity. Transportation must be arranged by families for students to attend the job shadow day. If you are interested in this opportunity please print and return this form to school prior to this Thursday, April 14.
Parents, we need your help with ensuring bus assignments for the 2022-2023 school year. Our goal is to have all of our TMS parents complete this survey prior to May 9. Even if you are planning to not have your child ride a bus next year, please take a couple of minutes to complete the survey: Student Ridership Survey 2022-2023 School Year
Attention Parents, the Pender Mobile Dental clinic is now at Topsail Middle School until July 22. The clinic provides routine and basic dental treatment to ALL interested students, parents, and staff. If you would like to take advantage of the delta services they provide, parents and staff can call the mobile for an appointment and students can ask his/her teacher for a form. A parent must complete the form and have your child return it to our school nurse. Please be aware that they make every effort to treat your child during elective classes so they are not missing out on core class instruction. Calling all 8th grade students, information about joining the High School Color Guard can be found using this link. There will be a clinic this week with auditions taking place next Thursday, April 21.
Attention any parents living outside of the TMS district. We are currently accepting applications for reassignment that you can complete online using this link for the 2022-2023 school year.
April is the month of the Military Child. With a large percentage of our students being Military connected, we have dedicated specific days this month to recognize our students. Please see this link for specific days this month and students and staff are encouraged every Friday to wear Purple.
Attention 5th-grade parents: We will be sharing the Always Changing Program with our 5th-grade students this Thursday, April 14. This is a traditional opportunity that we have provided our 5th-grade students in PCS to learn further about human development. Please see this letter for more information. Also, just a reminder that we will need the permission slips turned in to your child’s homeroom teacher to participate in this program.
Spirit Night at Papa Murphy’s will be on April 14 from 12pm-8pm. Topsail Middle will receive 33% of the proceeds from the sale of items during this event.
The PTO is an integral part of TMS as they are always doing positive things for the students and the staff. They have provided lunches for teacher appreciation week, fundraisers to improve the school grounds and support classrooms, and other highly positive events. To keep their tradition of excellence moving forward, the organization needs your support by volunteering to be a part of the Lead Team for 2022-2023. Attention parents of athletes! FREE SPORTS PHYSICALS! EmergeOrtho will be assisting in providing free sports physicals on Wednesday, April 13th from 5pm-7pm in the THS gym. These physicals will satisfy the NCHSAA requirement for sports physicals for 13 months. Students are encouraged to print and fill out the history portion of the physical form prior to their arrival. Parents, in accordance with board policy, all students on crutches, scooters, etc should have a medical appliance form signed by the HCP and Parent before returning to campus with these devices. We have linked the form to this message for your convenience.

SPORTS/CLUBS
Our Baseball and Volleyball teams will have a couple of away games this week. On Monday our teams will travel to Surf City to take on the Sharks and on Thursday teams will travel to Penderlea. Games will begin at 4:00pm, cost to attend a game is $5/ticket.
Students now have the opportunity to take part in our TMS Run Club! We will meet on Mondays and Thursdays after school until 3:30. All students will need a current physical in order to participate. Please contact Mrs. Baer for more details.
Chess Club has moved to Monday's after-school in room 613 with Mrs. James.
Girls on the Run and STRIDE meet Mondays and Thursdays after school until 4:00 at TES.
- Topsail Middle has connected with AXIS fitness in Hampstead to conduct a fundraiser to benefit the athletic teams at TMS. The 4-mile and 1-mile fun run will take place on May 12 starting ast 6:30. More information can be found at www.hampstead4mile.com
