April 3, 2022
Good evening Topsail Middle families, this is Mr. Lawrence with this week's community message. Topsail Middle would like to recognize our TMS 21-22 Teacher of the Year, Amy Engle for everything she does for our students and staff at TMS. The 8th grade NJHS students will be traveling to Cape Fear Community College on Friday for their annual trip. It is great to return to a previous tradition of allowing our 8th grade NJHS students to attend a field trip to a local college or University every year, which has not been allowed the past few years due to COVID. Guest speakers from CFCC came last week and talked to our 7th and 8th grade students about community college options in high school or beyond and goal setting. Friday, April 8 will also be our Exceptional Children Prom that will take place at Topsail High School. We have a number of new announcements this week so please be sure to check your email or our school website for this week's community message.
Our NC Check-ins for grades 6-8 are THIS WEEK! We will have shortened classes on Monday and Tuesday to allow students to focus for the first two hours on the Math Check-in Monday and the ELA Check-in on Tuesday. 8th grade Science will be completed on Wednesday but during regularly scheduled class time. These check-ins will serve as valuable information to see if students are ready for upcoming EOGs. Teachers will use the data to plan the remainder of the year. Please take these tests seriously! Please make sure you have your chromebook charged and bring your charger to school.
Spring Book Fair continues this week, ending on April 8th. We are trying a new vendor, Bedford Falls. All TMS students will have two opportunities to come to the book fair with their ELA classes during the week. Volunteers are needed. If you are interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Engle or the PTO. Sign up HERE to help

Attention 5th-grade parents: We will be sharing the Always Changing Program with our 5th-grade students on Thursday, April 14. This is a traditional opportunity that we have provided our 5th-grade students in PCS to learn further about human development. Please see this letter for more information. Also, just a reminder that we will need the permission slips turned in to your child’s homeroom teacher by Friday, April 8.
Spirit Night at Papa Murphy’s will be on April 14 from 12pm-8pm. Topsail Middle will receive 33% of the proceeds from the sale of items during this event.
The PTO is an integral part of TMS as they are always doing positive things for the students and the staff. They have provided lunches for teacher appreciation week, fundraisers to improve the school grounds and support classrooms, and other highly positive events. To keep their tradition of excellence moving forward, the organization needs your support by volunteering to be a part of the Lead Team for 2022-2023. If you are interested, please email the PTO at Go PTO!!
