🚒🔥 Real-World Experience in Public Safety! 🔥🚒
Earlier this week, students from Mr. Kulas’ Public Safety class had the incredible opportunity to spend the day at Camp Lejeune Fire Station 10 and Training Facility!
Students explored the hazmat truck, learned about drone operations, and got hands-on with the tools and equipment used in emergency entrapment scenarios. They also practiced first aid skills, handled a fire hose, and even used intubation tools on a training dummy!
This new partnership with Camp Lejeune Fire is opening doors for our students to explore exciting and meaningful careers in the public safety field. 👨🚒👩🚒
Huge thank you to Camp Lejeune Fire for your support—we’re looking forward to continuing and expanding this amazing partnership! 💪 @Camp Lejeune Fire & Emergency Services

To celebrate March as Youth Art Month, the National Art Honor Society decided to sponsor a special art contest inspired by the 1990’s in honor of our THS Centennial Celebration. Students were encouraged to create and submit original artwork based on the theme of 90's culture; This could be about fashion trends, music, movies, TV, magazines, and more. Artworks were judged on creativity, overall design, how well it fits the theme and prizes were given to the winners. This year’s winners are: tied for first place senior Aydia Courtright and sophomore Sade Williams, second place junior James Russell and third place went to sophomore Sydney Evans.
Aydia wrote of her artwork titled Sweet Chills: “I was really excited to show 90's fashion, and I also talked to my parents about what their life was like to make this as accurate as possible”
Sade wrote “My art work is titled “En Vogue” meaning “In fashion” or “very fashionable”. I am personally inspired by the artistic value haute couture pieces had in the 90’s, which is why I have based my work around it. In the 90’s the theme of dramatic shapes and diva personalities on the runway were very prevalent, which I have portrayed through the expression of the model and symbols associated with “bold divas” (ex: The pouty lips and lightning bolts”. Along with this the model is presented on a 90’s electronic device.”
James artwork Polaroids was inspired by common trends and celebrity icons “When I think of the 90’s, I think of Michael Jordan and Polaroid photos.”
Sydney wrote of her artwork A Stroll through the 90’s: “I was inspired by the grunge era of the 90's, along with the other major changes and creations during this influential decade. I used sketching supplies (an ebony pencil, blending tools, and sketch paper) to create this.”
Thank you to all students who submitted work and NAHS members look forward to hosting another competition next year!

Her favorite subject to teach? English! She loves discussing books and inspiring students to find joy in reading—her daily goal! 📖
Ms. Henry’s career is filled with countless special moments, from earning her National Board Certification and Doctorate degree 🎓 to the daily joys of connecting with students—whether it’s fist bumps, waves, or watching them shine in extracurricular activities.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys reading (often in her hot tub!), painting landscapes & animals, and spending time with her 10-year-old Jack Russell, Isabel—her "daughter" in a house full of boys! 🐶💖
Her favorite travel spots? Walt Disney World 🏰✨ and anywhere in the Caribbean. ☀️🌊
Her teaching philosophy? "The influence of a good teacher lasts forever." 🌟
🎉 Thank you, Ms. Henry, for your dedication to education and for inspiring a love of reading in your students! 👏

One of our students, James Russell has had two artworks selected to be part of a juried student art exhibition, and one of his artworks "Pondering" has won first place! Here is some information below as well as the attached artwork!
"On behalf of this year’s juror, Abir Mohsen, Ceramics and Sculpture Instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College, we are thrilled to announce that all submissions from our school have been selected for inclusion in the UNC Pembroke 44th Annual Juried High School Art Exhibition at the A.D. Gallery!
A juried art show is a prestigious exhibition where submitted artworks are reviewed and selected by an expert juror based on artistic quality, creativity, and execution. Being chosen for inclusion is a significant honor, as it reflects the artist's talent, dedication, and skill. It also highlights the importance of artistic mentorship and celebrates the encouragement provided by dedicated art teachers.
James Russell, an 11th-grade student, had two outstanding works selected for this exhibition: Lost and Pondering. This is an incredible achievement and a testament to James’s artistic vision and hard work.
The exhibition will be held from March 20 to 28, 2025, with a reception on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and an awards ceremony at 12:30 p.m.
University of North Carolina at Pembroke
The UNC-Pembroke's A.D. Gallery celebrates the creative achievements of regional high school students through this professionally organized exhibition. The show not only honors student talent but also acknowledges the crucial role of art education in nurturing young artists.
To learn more about the exhibition, visit: UNCP 44th Annual Juried High School Art Exhibition
Congratulations again to James and all participating students! We are proud of your accomplishments and look forward to seeing your continued artistic growth."
