Topsail High School - Pirates Athletics Department Names Head Varsity Football Coach

(Hampstead, NC) - Topsail High School Athletics Department has selected Coach Chris Schmidt as the ninth Head Football Coach in school history. Schmidt had served as the “Interim” Head Coach following the departure of Coach Jack Teachey, who accepted a position as Senior Defensive Analyst at Texas Tech University. Before serving in the Interim role, Coach Schmidt served as Associate Head

Coach/Defensive Coordinator for the Pirates Football Program. He’s also an Assistant Athletic Director, and teaches English 3 and Journalism.

“I’m humbled and excited to be named the permanent Head Coach for Topsail Football,” Schmidt said. “This program will continue to be built on the ideals of servant leadership and competitive excellence, and we will represent this community with respect and pride.”

Before Topsail, Coach Schmidt spent 3 years coaching at Cleveland High School in Clayton, NC, where he was the Head JV Coach and a Linebacker Coach for the football program. In his three seasons at the helm of the JV team, the Rams went 26-1 and won three straight conference titles. Coach Schmidt, a native of Upstate New York, coached at three different high schools and parts of two seasons at his alma mater, Ithaca College, before moving to NC in 2019. He and his wife Danielle live in Hampstead with their son, Brock, and their three dogs.

We are confident that Coach Schmidt will maintain our high expectations for our THS Pirates Football program with an emphasis on our student-athletes success on and off the field!
