Students at South Topsail Elementary celebrated the 100th Day of school on Friday, February 4, 2022. The day traditionally celebrates kindergarten students being "100 days smarter," during their first official year in school. This year, however, the celebration extended beyond kindergarten as all students celebrated 100 days of in-person learning for the first time in several years. School disruptions from Hurricane Florence in 2018 as well as Covid-19 have delayed the ability for students to celebrate the day in person until now.
Across grade levels, students were dressed up as their best 100 year-old selves and participated in 100th day math and reading activities. Fifth grade students tested out an "age booth" app to see what they could expect to look like in 90 years. Hallways and classroom doors were decorated with 100th Day messages. The day was a celebration of learning, and an ode to the perseverance of the students over the past several years.
