THE STARS ARE OUT - at Surf City Elementary and Middle Schools. Each star represents a student from a military family as April is the Month of the Military Child. Our thanks to all of the children of our service members and veterans for the personal sacrifices they have endured

We had an AMAZING author visit today from Nathan Hale! We created our own comics and learned all about President James A Garfield. If your student attended the session, ask him/her how President Garfield actually died. Many thanks to the NC Arts Council's Grassroots Grant program for helping us bring Mr. Hale to our school. We also want to give special recognition to student Lee Scott who recommended the Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series for our library and helped to create a lot of excitement for the books and the visit with Lee's Book Reviews on our morning announcements!

NAILED IT! - the bands at Surf City Middle, Topsail Middle and Topsail High nailed their performances at Music Performance Adjudication which was held at Havelock HS. Each band received either an excellent or superior rating! Congratulations to all who participated

Congratulations to the 8th grade band! They scored an overall rating of "Excellent" with a rating of "Superior" in sight reading at their Music Performance Adjudication performance yesterday. Hope to see you at their next performance at Topsail High School on May 4th at 6pm!

Nathan Hale, author and cartoonist, will be visiting our school Monday March 21st! His hilarious historical novel series, Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales, are a MUST READ for kids and grown-ups alike! Students who have read at least 1 or 2 of his books will attend his presentation or workshop on Monday. He will sign copies of his books if they bring one in as well. Many thanks to the NC Arts Council and their Grassroots Grant program for making his visit possible.

Happy BookFaceFriday! Brothers with the same book 6 years apart.
Have a great Spring Break, Sharks!

A big congratulations to the boys basketball team after winning the conference championship yesterday! The boys won 46 to 20 and finished the season with a 10 and 2 record, regular season co-champs, and conference tournament champs. Way to go champs!

It was a thrilling 2nd place finish for our Battle of the Books team today, narrowly missing 1st place by one question! They worked hard setting up the gym, played a tough battle, and finished the day with fun in the library. Great job, Sharks!

Lillian Foley has been selected to audition for the NC All-State band. Please join us in wishing her luck this week during auditions! Congrats and good luck!

From Mr. Tayloe...
8th graders set insect traps around campus to catch a glimpse of the smaller organisms that make up the ecosystem at SCMS and feed a lot of the animals we captured on Critter Cam. We left these traps out for a week and yesterday observed what we captured using microscopes.

Mr. Law's class is taking advantage of this beautiful weather and our wonderful new tables!

Thank you so much to everyone for the most amazing Book Fair ever! Not only did students get lots of great books, they also practiced math (What can I buy with $20? How much will tax add to my total?) and social studies (Wait...why do we have tax??) skills. It was a great week!
