SCM Families. We are looking for store-bought cookies—chocolate chip, M&M, sugar-free, and gluten-free options for the military ball tonight if possible. If you’re able, could you please drop them off at the elementary or middle school office anytime today? Thank you!

Mrs. Dapper's students read biographies today and took notes for their One Pagers. We really enjoyed a day of tech-free research!

Teacher Tuesday: Ms. Brandi Stettler — SCMS💙📘
Ms. Brandi Stettler serves students at SCMS and is known for her steady support and commitment to helping students succeed both in school and beyond. Staff and families describe her as someone who takes time to build real connections and supports students through a wide range of needs.
What stands out most about Ms. Stettler is her genuine care for students and families. She focuses on relationships and works to make sure students feel supported, especially during challenging situations.
One recent example shared in her nomination involved a meeting with grandparents who had just taken custody of a student. They arrived feeling overwhelmed and unsure. During the meeting, Ms. Stettler recognized them from more than 20 years ago. That connection immediately changed the tone of the conversation. What could have been a stressful meeting became more comfortable and supportive. The grandparents left feeling more at ease and better prepared to move forward.
Moments like this reflect the importance of relationships in schools and the role staff play in supporting families during difficult times.
Thank you, Ms. Stettler, for the care and support you provide to students and families at SCMS. 💛✅

Surf City Elementary School and Surf City Middle School proudly kicked off April: Month of the Military Child with a spirited parade celebrating the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of students from military families.
Students, staff, and community members lined the campus walkways to show their support for military-connected children. The parade brought together both schools in a celebration of pride, gratitude, and community as students cheered and recognized the important role military families play in our community.
Leading the parade was the THS Coast Guard JROTC, whose cadets marched with pride and helped set the tone for a meaningful and inspiring event. Their leadership helped highlight the strong connection between our schools and the military community that supports and protects our nation.
Surf City Schools extends a special thank you to Master Chief Brown and the Coast Guard JROTC for their leadership and partnership in honoring our military-connected students. Their presence helped make the event memorable and meaningful for everyone involved.
April’s Month of the Military Child serves as an opportunity for schools and communities to recognize the unique challenges military children face—from frequent moves to long deployments of loved ones—while celebrating their resilience, adaptability, and strength.
Throughout the month, Surf City Elementary and Surf City Middle School will continue to recognize and celebrate military-connected students through special activities and schoolwide events. These efforts reflect the schools’ ongoing commitment to supporting military families and ensuring every student feels seen, valued, and celebrated.
The kickoff parade was a powerful reminder that the Surf City school community stands proudly behind its military children—not just in April, but every day of the year.
