Congratulations to sixth grader Anna Sipe who recently took on an incredible challenge—her very first triathlon. Competing in the Azalea Sprint Triathlon in Wilmington Sunday, Anna was one of only six athletes in the 15-and-under age group. With experience in 5K races and swim team training, the biggest challenge for Anna was the biking portion. When her dad signed up for the race, he asked if she wanted to join him, and without hesitation, she said yes. From there, she took on the unknown—learning to transition from swimming to biking to running and pushing through the toughest parts of the course.
Clocking an impressive time of 2:21:35.5, Anna faced strong winds and freezing temperatures, riding the entire 12-mile bike course alone after she and her dad got separated. Despite the conditions, she never gave up! When asked if she’d do another triathlon, her answer was simple: "Yes!" With another race planned for this summer, Anna’s journey is just beginning. Congratulations, Anna, on this remarkable achievement!
