Good afternoon Rocky Point Families,
As sent out by the district on Friday, February 3, Pender County Schools is asking for your input in a survey regarding our school calendars for the 23-24 school year. Your opinions and feedback are important to us as we strive to provide the best possible educational experience for our students. The survey will consist of questions that gauge your preferences and opinions on the pros and cons of each calendar option. Your participation in this survey will help us make a better decision about the implementation of a new school calendar. The survey is available online and will take less than five minutes to complete. We would appreciate it if you could take the time to participate in the survey by Sunday, February 5, at Midnight. The link to the survey can be found here: Please click this link to access the survey.
As I shared last weekend, I will be making up my feedback session with families on Wednesday, February 8th. Again, I am inviting parents of Rocky Point Elementary students to join me at 3:30 to provide feedback on this first semester and to discuss upcoming plans for the second semester. If you are unable to attend in person, you may join the conversation at the google meet link provided here: meet.google.com/ydu-ipbg-czx
National School Counseling Week is this upcoming week, February 6th-10th. We are very grateful for our School Counselor, Mrs. Mandy Harrell. Please help us show her how much our RPES family loves and appreciates her this week.
Also this week, PTO will be selling Valentine grams beginning Monday February 6th - Friday February 10th. Order forms will be coming home on Monday, however some forms were already sent home on Friday. Each gram is $1.00 and will be delivered to classrooms on Valentine's Day. These grams can be purchased from parents to their children or from students to other students or staff members.
Interim reports for the 3rd quarter will be coming home with students tomorrow, Monday, February 6th. On Monday, February 13th, we will be celebrating our 100th day of school and having a little dress up fun. Students may come dressed in attire representing the number 100 or dressed as an 100 year old person.
On Thursday, Feb. 16, Pender County Library will partner with Stack Stories LLC to host a screening of the documentary “Lessons from the Rosenwald Schools”. The screening will take place at the Main Library at 103 S. Cowan Street in Burgaw at 6 p.m. The film reveals practices that were common in Rosenwald schools and other historic African American schools, including many teaching strategies that are validated by current research, and recommends ways that we can move forward together.
On Thursday, February 23, students will be taking spring class pictures. We are asking for these pictures to be purchased in advance and information will come home with students this upcoming week.
Please mark your calendars and plan to come to RPES on February 24th as we are inviting all families for a Black History Assembly led by our 4th and 5th grade students at 12:30.
A quick reminder that we have an early release day for students on Wednesday, with student dismissal taking place at 11:20am. Please make sure your child knows how they are going home. PACES will be open and operate on a normal schedule, however 21st Century will be closed for students on Wednesday, February 8 due to our early release schedule. As we highlight Black History month in the month of February, our quote for the week: “Be passionate and move forward with gusto every single hour or every single day until you reach your goal” by Ava Duvernay. Have a great week everyone!
