Good afternoon Rocky Point Families,
Thank you to all families who came and celebrated students’ first semester accomplishments with us on Friday. As I stated at each of the grade level recognition ceremonies, I am very proud of each student’s achievements for the first semester as well as looking forward to seeing the growth each student makes as we begin middle of year assessments this upcoming week continuing into early February. Our overall school attendance is trending to have ⅓ of our school chronically absent for the school year. Let’s focus on decreasing absences and being at school to learn each day unless your child is sick beyond the capability of being able to learn that day.
I would like to recognize Amari Wallace, Sammy Jordan and Irvin Munoz-Ruvalcaba for being selected at the district science fair to advance to the regional science fair at UNCW in February. We are so proud of them and know they will represent our school and our district well!
There was an interest meeting for 4th and 5th grade students held this past Wednesday, January 11th, for students interested in being on our school Science Olympiad team. If your child attended, please make sure they turn in the interest forms no later than Thursday, January 19th. If they did not attend, but are interested, please let us know by contacting the office or your child’s 4th or 5th grade teacher.
On Tuesday, January 17th, we will begin accepting applications for students interested in participating in this year’s talent show, which will be held on March 30. At this time, all we need from students is simply that they are interested in performing a talent live or would like to submit a talent via video that will be shown at our talent show.
On Wednesday, January 25th, I am inviting parents of Rocky Point Elementary students to join me at 3:30 to provide feedback on this first semester and to discuss upcoming plans for the second semester. In next weekend’s update, I will also provide a way for families to provide feedback digitally if you are unable to attend.
All families that have indicated at some point that you are federally connected by either being active duty or a federal civil service employee should have received an email this past week. Federal regulations require that we collect this information EVERY YEAR by a specific date. Pender County Schools needs to have this information by Monday, January 23rd. This process has been moved to online via Scribbles instead of sending out the paper survey cards. Due to federal guidelines, we are required to have parents/guardians that are federally connected complete the survey as of January 23, 2023. The correct reporting of the number of students who are federally connected directly impacts the services we can provide to our federally connected students. Please login to your Scribbles account and complete the Military Information Update form for each of your PCS students. This will enable us to capture accurate data to submit the Impact Aid Grant. We are asking that this be submitted no later than Monday, January 23. 2023. If this applies to your family and you have already completed this request in Scribbles, THANK YOU, and please disregard this message. If you have not, you may find the form here: https://penderncc.scriborder.com/ .

Please remember there is no school for students and staff tomorrow, Monday, January 16th, as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday and holiday. Our quote for the week: “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the true goal of education” by Martin Luther King Jr.. Have a great week everyone!
