Good afternoon Rocky Point Families,

What a wonderful week it was to be a Rocky Point RAM!  We had many guests in our building this week and I am beyond proud of how well our students and staff demonstrated what an amazing place Rocky Point Elementary School is.  A huge congratulations to Mrs. Jessica Barnette on her national Milken Educator Award that she received on Tuesday, as State Superintendent Catherine Truitt, the Vice President of the Milken Educator Awards, Stephanie Bishop, and other previous Milken Educator Award recipients visited RPES.

Thank you to each family who brought your child to perform in our winter holiday concert on Wednesday evening.  We had 68% of our student population represented at this event and approximately over 500 guests for both concerts combined.  If you were unable to attend the concert, the links are on YouTube as well below:

Thank you also to all families who supported and assisted with our Book Fair this past week.  It was also a huge success!

Our sincerest appreciation to all families who joined us in our community giving projects as Mrs. Bishop was able to deliver animal shelter donations and Mrs. Batten was able to deliver holiday cards to the Laurels on Friday afternoon.   As students took their picture on Friday morning, the excitement filled the room with their joy of being able to give to others.

Our PTO sends their gratitude for your participation in the most recent PTO fundraiser and purchasing holiday popcorn grams which will be delivered to students and staff members on tomorrow, Monday, December 19th.

This week at Rocky Point, we are inviting all students to join in the fun of the holidays by two spirit days:

Monday, December 19th:  Wear an ugly Christmas sweater or red or green

Tuesday, December 20th: Wear pajamas or sweats.  Students must still wear appropriate shoes for school.  No slippers or bedroom shoes will be allowed.

Also on Tuesday, we will be having our second quarter PBIS celebration in which students who have earned their tickets will have a choice between two movies as well as be treated with popcorn and a cup of hot chocolate.  With this celebration, please note that a focus on learning will still take place throughout the other parts of their day.  All Kindergarten students will be viewing “A Trash Truck Christmas”; 1st and 2nd grade students will have their choice of "Vivo" or "48 Christmas Wishes"; 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students will have their choice of "The Mitchells vs The Machines" or "Christmas Chronicles 2".  Please communicate on ClassTag with your child’s teacher if you have any concerns or movie preferences for your student.

Additionally, Tuesday, December 20th is the end of our 2nd quarter.  Please ensure that your child has completed and turned in all assignments for quarter 2.  Looking ahead, we will have our first semester recognition ceremonies during the day on Friday, January 13th.  We hope that you will plan to attend to celebrate all student accomplishments during this first semester.

Our quote for the week:  “Winter, a lingering season, is a time to gather golden moments, embark upon a sentimental journey, and enjoy every idle hour” by John Boswell.  Please remember the last day for students prior to our winter break is Tuesday, December 20th.  We hope that each family enjoys their winter break and the time with one another.  Have a great week!
