Good afternoon Rocky Point Families,

Thank you to each and every family that took time out of your busy schedules to join us for our Annual Title 1 Parent Meeting as well as our Curriculum Event.  For those families who were unable to attend, we want you to know that we noticed your absence and will be sending home curriculum information that you may have missed tomorrow, Monday, September 26.  Tomorrow, you will also be receiving your child’s first quarter interim reports and beginning of year assessment information from iReady for grades K-2, mClass for grades K-5 and BOG 3 results for grade 3 only.  Please be on the lookout for this information and contact your child’s teacher if you do not receive it or if you have any questions.

Additionally, thank you for all of your support for our PTO in your efforts to sell Attractions books during our recent fundraiser.

As a district, we are continuing to be in need of bus drivers.  If you are interested in doing so, even as a substitute driver when a school needs one, please sign up to attend one of the virtual CDL Bus Classes October 3-5, October 17-19 or October 31-November 2.  If you already have your CDL & just want to help please contact Mary Seigler, as described below.

As I referenced in last weekend’s update, while we want all students at school each day, if your child is not feeling well, please keep them home in order to help keep the spread of illnesses to a minimum in our school environment.   I am sharing a link in this weekend’s email with our Communicable Disease Guidelinesto help you decide whether or not students should be sent to school with regards to symptoms and illnesses.  This information will also be posted on our school website this upcoming week.

There will be an Academically Intellectually Gifted parent information session for families in the Cape Fear Elementary School Media center on October 13th at 4:30pm.  While this meeting is mostly for parents of newly identified students, all families of AIG students are invited.  If you cannot attend and would like a copy of this presentation, please contact Mrs. Ellen Sidbury at ellen_sidbury@pender.k12.nc.us.

Looking ahead, please mark your calendars as we will be joining with Cape Fear Elementary, Cape Fear Middle and Heide Trask High School on Saturday, October 22, to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month.  More information will be coming soon with regards to how you can contribute to this fundraising and celebratory event as well as how your child can participate in performances at this event.

In honor of Hispanic American Heritage Month, I am sharing a quote from Celia Cruz: “When opportunity presents itself, grab it. Hold on tight and don’t let go.” As always, thank you for your continued support and we hope everyone has a great week!
