classwork

On Thursday, second grade students participated in a special event known as Peep Day, featuring hands-on learning activities that combined creativity, math, and outdoor fun. As part of the celebration, students worked together to construct nests for marshmallow Peeps using different materials. The activity encouraged problem-solving and teamwork as students designed and built their nests with the goal of safely housing their chick Peeps.

Following the nest-building activity, students practiced counting and data collection by tallying the number of rabbit Peeps in each nest. Teachers incorporated math skills such as grouping, addition, and simple comparisons into the lesson.

Students also read a nonfiction reading passage focused on the science behind marshmallow Peeps. Students learned about how Peeps are made and what ingredients give them their unique texture. The passage served as a literacy and science integration.

The day concluded with an Easter egg hunt on the school grounds. Eggs were hidden throughout the playground and surrounding area, giving students a chance to explore and enjoy the spring weather. The activities aimed to reinforce classroom concepts while offering students a memorable and EGG-CITING experience.

Thank you to the 2nd grade teachers for a great day that combined learning, laugher, and lots of colorful marshmallow chicks.
