Fifth grade was busy this week “diving” in to their Wit and Wisdom curriculum to make a “splash” with learning. They focused on figurative language and how an author can “play” with words. Students read "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Norton Juster and completed multiple "Focusing Question Tasks" where they analyzed examples of wordplay within the story and how this play on words added to the overall plot and character development. We celebrated with "punny" snacks and students could "purchase" letters to make their own words, just like the characters in our novel!
Marine CSI came to Rocky Point for an in-school field trip with the 5th graders. They explored the causes and effects of climate change and created flyers to inform others about potential solutions to these issues.
