Our Second Grade Rams have been learning about civil rights heroes in Wit and Wisdom this week. Students read about Ruby Bridges and the impacts she had on schools in the United States. Since Ruby was the age of 6 when she started school, the children were able to relate to her and what she may have been feeling. The children then wrote a reflection on the events in the voice of Ruby Bridges.
Next, they listened to “This Little Light of Mine” while following along with the lyrics in their workbooks. Students payed extra attention to the repeated words and why they are important. Their little voices couldn’t help singing along and filled the classroom with music. Rocky Point students are shining their lights every day!
