LAURA BLACK

ROCKY POINT, NC - Laura Black, a music teacher at Rocky Point Elementary School, has been awarded a $370 mini-grant from STEM SENC. The grant, made possible through the support of Corning and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, will be used to purchase microphones for student podcasting projects.

Ms. Black plans to integrate podcasting into her 4th and 5th-grade music classes, where students will create episodes featuring topics such as music history, personal compositions, and individual performances.

“We’re very excited for this technology integration!” said Ms. Black.

STEM SENC is a regional initiative serving southeastern North Carolina counties, including Pender County, aimed at fostering STEM learning opportunities and preparing students for college and careers. Grant recipients were selected from a competitive pool of applicants based on their innovative approaches to engaging students in STEM education.

The award recognizes Ms. Black’s dedication to combining music education with technology to enhance student learning experiences.
