BURGAW, N.C. — Pender County Schools held its annual Agriculture Day (AG Day) at Penderlea Farms, offering students a firsthand glimpse into the world of farming and agriculture.
The event welcomed approximately 900 elementary school students from across the district to engage in various educational activities. Students had the opportunity to learn about different aspects of agriculture, from crop cultivation to animal husbandry.
Pender County Schools Superintendent Dr. Brad Breedlove emphasized the importance of hands-on learning experiences like AG Day, stating, "It's crucial for our students to understand the significance of agriculture in our community and beyond."
Throughout the day, students participated in interactive demonstrations led by local agricultural experts as well as high school students who are a part of Future Farmers of America (FFA). They gained insights into sustainable farming practices, agricultural technology, and the role of agriculture in food production and distribution.
"We're thrilled to see our students actively engaged and eager to learn about agriculture," said Dominique Bates, Pender County Schools Director of Career & Technical Education. "Events like this not only educate but also inspire the next generation of farmers and agricultural leaders."
Pender County Schools AG Day at Penderlea Farms served as a platform for students to develop a deeper appreciation for the agricultural industry while fostering connections between the school community and local farmers.
