Good Afternoon Rocky Point Families,

What an interesting first week back we had this week!  We highly appreciate the two-way communication with our families on this past Tuesday’s remote learning day as well as with after school cancellations on Friday.

A reminder that our second nine weeks and first semester report cards were sent home with students on Friday, January 12th.  As I reviewed each report card, I am so proud of each student’s effort, progress and success during the first semester.  Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.  Please remember the importance of attendance and its impact on learning as we begin our second semester.

January is a very busy month at RPE!  Please note the following dates:

  • Monday, January 15th: No school for students in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

  • Students in grades K-5 will be continuing with their middle of year state mClass reading assessments through Thursday, January 18th.

  • Beginning Monday, January 22nd, our multilingual students will begin their Access language testing.

  • Students in grades 3-5 will take their middle of year state Math Check-In assessment on Tuesday, January 23rd.

  • Students in grades 3-5 will take their middle of year state Reading Check-In assessment on Thursday, January 25th.

  • Friday, January 26th:  We will be welcoming families of all grade levels from 7:30 - 9:30 am to engage with our students as all grade levels will be focusing specifically on math instruction and allowing families an opportunity to have a first-hand experience with math standards for the upcoming second semester.

  • Students in grade 5 will take their middle of year state Science Check-In assessment on Wednesday, January 31st.

Families that have students that ride bus 235, formerly bus 293, please check your child’s bookbag for information regarding afternoon drop off changes that were sent home on Friday.  These changes will be implemented on Tuesday, January 16th due to overcrowding on our afternoon buses.  If you have any questions, please contact our school.  Again, please note that these changes will only impact the afternoon drop off times.  We continue to appreciate your flexibility in advance while we make these additional adjustments for the safety of our students.

Families that have students in Ms. Finch’s Kindergarten class or Ms. Meredith’s second grade class, please note the meet and greet opportunity communicated to you in your child’s report card envelope in regards to their new teachers.  We are excited to welcome Mrs. Megan Rohlfing and Mrs. Tiffany Cutshaw to our RPE family!

Our quote for the week in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr.:  “The complete education gives one not only power of concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate” by Martin Luther King Jr.  Again, please remember that school is closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday and we look forward to seeing all of our students Tuesday morning!
