Good Afternoon Rocky Point Families,
This week on Tuesday, September 26th, our Annual Title 1 Parent Meeting and beginning of year curriculum event will take place beginning at 4:00pm. At this event, you will have the opportunity to meet all of our staff for the 23-24 school year, learn your rights and responsibilities as stakeholders in a Title 1 School and learn more about your child’s curriculum for this school year and how you can support their learning at home. Families will meet in the gym at 4:00pm to be introduced to staff and listen to Title 1 information. Grade level rotations will follow this information beginning at 4:30pm. There will be opportunities for parents to visit multiple children’s classrooms on a rotating basis every 20 minutes during this event. Free snacks and finger foods will also be served at this event. Following this event at 6:00pm, we will have a Parent Teacher Organization meeting beginning at 6:00 in the media center. We hope that every family will plan to join us for these events on Tuesday.
A reminder that health assessments and immunizations for students are due no later than this upcoming Tuesday, September 26th. If students do not have these items completed, they will not be able to return to school beginning on Wednesday, September 27th until our school nurse, Nurse Parker, has received this information. If you have any questions, please reach out Nurse Parker at kendyl_parker@pender.k12.nc.us.
A reminder that interim reports went home with students this past Wednesday as well as mClass Home Connect letters informing you how your child performed on their beginning of year mClass reading assessments. Individual student reports went home with 3rd grade students informing families how your child performed on their Beginning of Grade 3 reading assessment. We also sent home information about our upcoming Hispanic Heritage event that will take place on Friday, October 27th at Rocky Point Elementary School. If your child is interested in participating in the dances, please return the form and you will be contacted individually very soon to provide more specific information about practices for the dances. If you are interested in selling food at this event, please return the form as well and we will be reaching out to you to get more specifics. If you have any questions about how you or your child can participate in activities at our Hispanic Heritage event, please contact Mrs. Adriana Perez at adriana_perez@pender.k12.nc.us.
The RPES Orchestra is raising funds to travel to Winston-Salem, NC for their performance at the NC Music Educators Conference. We are seeking business sponsorships to assist with funding their travel and uniform costs for the trip. Contributing business names will be listed on students’ shirts. If you know of any businesses that would like to sponsor our students who are in the Rocky Point Elementary School Orchestra, please have them contact Mrs. Laura Black at laura_black@pender.k12.nc.us.
If your child is interested in submitting an artistic entry for the cover of this year’s yearbook, please have them do so prior to the deadline for submissions on Friday, October 13th. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Black, our music teacher, at laura_black@pender.k12.nc.us. Details for the contest are included in my weekend email.

Our Parent Teacher Organization is continuing to sell the Attractions Coupon Book as a fundraiser to replenish PTO funds to provide ongoing support for our students and teachers. Their goal is for each family to buy or sell 1 just book! Each book sold raises $15 for our school. Remember, if you have any questions, please contact Meredith Nance via email at Rockypointpto@gmail.com. If you cannot participate in this fundraiser, please return the book in its original condition immediately. Again, the PTO is offering individual prizes for students as well as a pizza party for the top selling class in the school!
October is almost here! In the link provided are activities for our district's 4th annual Month of Awareness. Please plan to wear green during the first week of October!
Our quote for the week in honor of Hispanic Heritage month: “We must use our lives to make the world a better place to live, not just to acquire things. That is what we are put on the earth for” by Dolores Huerta. Have a great week everyone and we hope to see each family at our Curriculum Night and PTO meeting.
