Good afternoon Rocky Point Families,
Thank you to all parents who joined us for our Black History Assembly on Friday. We are very appreciative for all of Mrs. Black and our students’ preparation and hard work that went into this educational event honoring key figures in our nation’s history.
A reminder that this upcoming week, February 27th through March 3rd, is Read Across America Week. Again, our goal is to have at least one guest reader in each classroom each day! Hopefully, you received our flyer sent home about our daily themes & book highlights of various cultural authors. If not, they are as follows:
Monday, February 27th: Rainbow Readers - Wear as many colors as you can, highlighting the books: The Proudest Blue and The 5 Worlds
Tuesday, February 28th: Partner Up and Read - dress up in cowboy or cowgirl clothing or as a twin with someone else at RPES, highlighting the books: Cowboy & Octopus and The Crossover
Wednesday, March 1st: Cozy Up to a Good Book - wear pajamas, highlighting the books: Bear Snores On and Making A Difference: Kids Changing the World
Thursday, March 2nd: Happy Birthday Dr. Suess - dress as your favorite Dr. Suess character or wear a hat, highlighting all books by Dr. Suess
Friday, March 3rd: Readers are Superheros - dress as a superhero or dress like your hero, highlight the books: Lyric McKerrigan, Secret Librarian and Black Panther: The Young Prince
Please note that there will be no piano or strings clubs this week. Please make sure you and your child have a discussion regarding how they will go home each day! These clubs will resume after spring break.
Kindergarten registration will begin on Wednesday, March 1st! If you have a child that will turn 5 years old prior to August 31, 2023, please plan to register them for Kindergarten. Also, the reassignment application will begin on March 1st. If you would like for your student to attend a Pender County School other than the one they are zoned for, you will need to submit a reassignment request. The application will close on Friday, March 31st. The application can be found at https://penderncc.scriborder.com/ A quick reference guide to complete the application is linked here: Reassignment Request Reference guide
If you need assistance with either of these processes, you may contact our school data manager, Mrs. Jan Richardson, after Wednesday, March 1st. Please let us know if you have any questions!

As we highlight Black History month in the month of February, our quote for the week: “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed” by Booker T. Washington. Have a great week everyone!
