Weekly Update 2/3

Good evening Penderlea Families,

Here are some important information and updates for the week of February 3rd through February 7th and beyond.

Word of the Week

This week’s Word of the Week will be Characterize. Characterize which means to describe the qualities or traits of someone or something

Please re-enforce the use of this word at home.

PCS Student Dress Code Policy Review

Pender County Schools is in the process of reviewing the current student dress code policy which was adopted in 2011. Student voices and opinions are imperative as we review the dress code. On Monday, February 10, 2025, middle and high school students will be asked to participate in the optional survey using their ClassLink log-in. The survey is designed to help Pender County Schools gain valuable insight into the review and revision of the current policy.  To provide transparency, the questions on the survey are linked below for review. Staff and Parents are also encouraged to provide feedback using the same survey.

If you would like to allow your child the option to participate, you do not need to do anything.  If you would prefer that your child NOT participate in the survey at school, please fill out this form by Monday, February 10th, and return it to your child’s school. We will have copies in the front office to fill out as well.

Reassignment Request

In an effort to accommodate the educational preferences of families in the Pender County School District, officials have opened the reassignment request period for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year. Parents who wish to enroll their students in a Pender County school outside of their designated attendance zone, with the exception of Pender Early College and Pender Innovative Learning Academy, are encouraged to participate in the application process.

Due to schools in the Topsail and Surf City school districts being over capacity, no new applications will be accepted. However, students who currently attend these schools on reassignment will have the opportunity to complete an application.

The application period opens on February 1, 2025, allowing parents ample time to consider alternative educational options for their children. The deadline for submitting reassignment requests is March 31, 2025.
