STEM Night
Mark your calendars because we are excited to announce that our annual STEAM Night will be held Thursday February 13th from 4pm to 6pm! We would love to have you join us for an evening of exciting hands-on activities. Come enjoy light snacks and a special opportunity to explore and learn alongside your students and their teachers through engaging STEAM experiences!
Athletic Throwback Night
We're excited to announce a special Throwback Night for all former Penderlea Hornets! Join us Friday February 28th, from 6 PM to 9 PM, in the old gym.
Calling all former Penderlea basketball players and cheerleaders! Ever miss putting on your sneakers or pom poms? Want to reminisce about the good old days while supporting current Penderlea athletics? Then this event is for you!

Athletic Camp Scholarship
Four County EMC is offering scholarships to attend basketball camps at UNC and NCSU. Students in 6th or 7th grade for the 2025-2026 school year are eligible. Apply by March 31st. See links for details:

New School Naming
Pender County Schools is excited to announce the opening of a new elementary and middle school in Hampstead and need your input to choose the perfect name for each school! Following Board Policy, school names should reflect the local geography, history, or community.
Please take a few minutes to participate in the School Naming Form by February 2, 2025. You can select from suggested names or submit your own ideas, ensuring they align with our district guidelines.
Your input will help shape the identity of this new school for years to come
NC Check Ins Coming Up
Students in grades 3-8 will complete NC Check-Ins in the coming weeks. NC Check-In dates are as follows:
ā Math Check-Ins- January 22nd
ā Reading Check-Ins- January 24th
ā 5th & 8th grade Science Check-Ins on January 28th
As a reminder NC Check-Ins are interim assessments developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and will not be used for classroom grades. However, please encourage your students to do their best. Both the EOGs and NC Check-Ins share a common item bank, and performance on the NC Check-Ins serves as an early indicator of a studentās level of preparedness for the EOG summative assessment.
Middle School After School Detention
Dear Middle School Parents,
Please be advised that Penderlea will begin to implement after-school detention on February 3rd for Middle School students. This measure is being implemented to address disruptive classroom behavior and incomplete assignments.
Support the United Way Family Campaign
Pender County Schools is proud to support the United Way of the Cape Fear Areaās Family Campaign, helping fund over 40 nonprofit organizations in Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender counties. Last year, these programs impacted more than 52,000 lives through grants for education, financial stability, and health.

Want to paint the Penderlea Spirit Rock with a special message? Contact the front office at pls_info@pender.k12.nc.us to schedule your rock painting session.
