Weekly Update

Good evening Penderlea Families,

Here are some important information and updates for the week of January 6th through January 10th and beyond.

I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful break! I wish you all had a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year filled with joy and time spent with loved ones.

Tomorrow, January 6th, marks the start of a new semester at Penderlea, and I'm incredibly excited to get started! We've already accomplished so much this year, and I'm looking forward to another semester of amazing learning and growth.

Important Reminders:

  • School Hours:

    • Drop-off begins at 7:20 AM.

    • School starts at 7:40 AM.

    • School dismissal is at 2:50 PM.

  • Regular and on-time attendance is crucial for student success. Please ensure your child arrives at school promptly each day and stays for the entirety of the day, as every moment of their education is key for their success.

I'm eager to see all the students tomorrow!

Word of the Week

This week’s Word of the Week will be Evaluate. Evaluate means to decide the value or worth of something after careful study.

Please re-enforce the use of this word at home. 

Report Cards

Report Cards for all students for term 2 will go home Friday January 10th. Please contact your child’s teacher for any questions regarding your child’s performance. 

STEM Night

Mark your calendars because we are excited to announce that our annual STEAM Night will be held on Thursday February 13th from 4pm to 6pm! We would love to have parents and community join us for an evening of exciting hands-on activities. Come enjoy light snacks and a special opportunity to explore and learn alongside your students and their teachers through engaging STEAM experiences!

Athletics

  • We are excited to announce that we have hired two new coaches. 

    • Mr. Kayden Jones will coach our Boys basketball team

    • Mr. Quavion Basyden will coach our Girls basketball team. 

  • Boys and girls basketball tryouts will be held January 6-7 after school til 5.

Athletic Throwback Night

We're excited to announce a special Throwback Night for all former Penderlea Hornets! Join us on Friday February 28th, from 6 PM to 9 PM, in the old gym.

Calling all former Penderlea basketball players and cheerleaders! Ever miss putting on your sneakers or pom poms? Want to reminisce about the good old days while supporting current Penderlea athletics? Then this event is for you!

PBIS Second Quarter Celebration Donations

The Penderlea PBIS committee is collecting donations for our 2nd quarter PBIS celebration. Please see attached flier for what we need in order to celebrate our awesome students! 

Support the United Way Family Campaign

Pender County Schools is proud to partner with and support the United Way of the Cape Fear Area’s Family Campaign. The United Way is currently helping fund over 40 nonprofit organizations in Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender counties. Last year, these programs impacted more than 52,000 lives through grants for education, financial stability, and health.

Show Your School Spirit!

Want to paint the Penderlea Spirit Rock with a special message? Contact the front office at pls_info@pender.k12.nc.us to schedule your rock painting session.

Cost: $5. All proceeds support the school.
