In Ms. Brooks 1st grade, students studied Christmas Around the World in Social Studies, exploring holiday traditions from various countries. As part of the activity, each student created a carry-on bag to hold their crafts, and to "board the plane" for their travels, they had to show their passport and ticket. During their journey, they listened to details about the country they were visiting, learning about its unique Christmas customs and celebrations. Afterward, they constructed a craft that represented the traditions of that country, whether it was a special ornament, decoration, or symbol. Once the craft was complete, students placed a stamp in their passport to mark the country they visited. This engaging project helped the students meet the standard of identifying cultural practices and traditions in local communities and places around the world.
1st grade students in Mrs. Lanier’s class had a big time learning about reactions during their exciting science fair project! They explored various scientific principles, observing and experimenting with different reactions in a hands-on way. In social studies, the adventure continued as they traveled around the world, discovering different cultures and the types of celebrations they have during this time of year. From holiday traditions to unique customs, students enjoyed learning about how people from various countries celebrate the season. It was a fun and educational journey that blended science and cultural exploration!
