Here are some important information and updates for the week of October 14th through the 18th and beyond:
NC Check-Ins: Testing Starts This Week
NC Check-Ins, state benchmark tests, begin this week for all 3rd-8th graders. These tests assess your child's knowledge of state standards and help the school plan instruction and provide support.
Encourage Your Child:
Talk to your child about taking the assessments seriously.
Ensure they get a good night's sleep before each testing day.
Help them be prepared to take the tests.
Testing Schedule:
October 15, 2024: 3rd-8th Grade Math Check-In
October 17, 2024: 3rd-8th Grade Reading Check-In
October 24, 2024: 5th and 8th Grade Science Check-In (5th & 8th Grade Only)

Science Olympiad Sign-Ups
Calling all future scientists! Sign-up sheets for the Science Olympiad team are outside Ms. Anderson's door. There are teams for both elementary (4th & 5th grade) and middle school (6th-8th grade). Sign-ups close on October 18th.
Soccer Parent Meeting
Attention Soccer Players! There's an additional parent meeting for soccer on Tuesday, October 15th at 3:15 PM.
Meeting Requirements:
One parent and the child must attend a parent meeting for the athlete to try out. (Exception: If your child participated in Fall sports or attended the original soccer meeting on 10/10, you've met this requirement.)
All forms completed in Big Teams/Student Central.
Physical on file in Big Teams/Student Central (See attached letter for details).
Not meeting these requirements may affect your athlete's ability to try out.

Fall Picture Make-Ups
Missed fall pictures? We're offering make-up sessions on Wednesday, October 23rd. Order forms can be obtained from your child's teacher.
Exciting News! Free After-School Program
We're thrilled to announce the start of our free after-school tutoring and enrichment program for K-4 students! This program, funded by the district 21st Century Grant, aims to support your child's academic success in a fun and enriching environment.

Transportation (available for families who need it)

Pick up an application form from the front office.
Spaces are limited, so apply ASAP!

Flu Vaccines Offered at School
Protect yourself and your family from the flu this season! We're offering convenient flu vaccines at school this year for both students and staff.
Important Information:
Consent forms must be completed and submitted by Wednesday, October 16th.

Fall Athletic Festival Fun!
Join us for the Penderlea Athletics Fall Festival on Thursday, October 24th, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM on the football field.
Wristbands: $5 each for unlimited access to all booth games!
Contests: Additional $1 entry fee for fun stage area competitions.
Food: Concessions will be available for dinner and snacks.
Special Needs Awareness Week
October in PCS is awareness month! This week (October 14th-18th) is Special Needs Week. Join us in raising awareness!
Special Needs Awareness includes educating individuals about various needs and how to bring about necessary changes. Over 15% of the world’s population experience some type of special need. Let’s work together to help break social barriers.
