Hello Penderlea!

Here are today's announcements. We have a lot going on at Penderlea, and we are closer to spring so please make it a point to keep up with announcements.

Basketball games are away this week!  Monday, Feb 5th, will be at Burgaw Middle and Thursday, Feb 8th, will be at Surf City Middle.  Game time is 4:30 and admission is $5 cash only!

If your child is interested in trying out for baseball, they will need to be prepared to have workouts the week of March 11 from 4:00- 5:15.

Tryouts will be March 18 and 19th from 4:00-5:30.

Please be aware that this is over our spring break and you will need to provide transportation to workouts and tryouts. Practice is also over break and will start on the 20th.

If you do not have a physical on file, go ahead and get that taken care of before March 11.

  • Pender High School will host parents and their rising 9th graders at an open house on Tuesday, February 6 from 5-7 pm in the gymnasium.  Students and parents can talk to representatives from each department about possible course selections.  Students may also register at this event through Powerschool for their preferred electives with a parent present.  I highly encourage all current 8th graders and their families to attend.  I will also be there if you have any questions.

On Thursday, February 29th, students in grades 7 - 12 will have the opportunity to participate in Pender County Schools' Job Shadowing Day!  Job Shadow Day allows students to gain first-hand information about the workplace and explore the possibilities for their future careers. It’s an opportunity for Pender County Schools students to make connections between school and the real-world. It's recommended that students and their families’ network with friends, family and neighbors in an effort to find a placement in a career of their interest. Job Shadow Day aims to allow students to:

  • gain first hand experience

  • explore career passions

  • expand networks

  • build industry pipelines

  • make a difference in the life of a student by giving that student a new vision for their future.

Students should see me if they would like an application.

Page 1 of the application is due to me by February 21.

Page 2 of the application is due to me by March 25 in order for the day to be coded as excused.

Please see me if you have any questions.

Thank you, Mrs. Burdette

If your student received an invitation to join our Junior Beta Club, please make sure the paperwork and fees are turned in by 12:00pm, Monday, February 5th. The induction will be held on February 19th at 6:00pm.

We will celebrate “Read Across America”, the week of February 26-March 1. We will have various dress up days and readers visiting classrooms. Information will be sent home explaining the dress up days.

That is all for now, have an amazing weekend!
