Hello Penderlea Families!

This is Principal McNeill with this week's messages. We have a lot of important information to share with you so please read carefully and let us know if you have questions.

3rd grade parent announcement:

As part of the Read to Achieve legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2012, your child will take the Beginning-of-Grade 3 English Language Arts/Reading Test to establish a baseline measure of how he or she is reading. This test will be administered August 1, 2023. Following the test administration, you will receive an individual student report with your child's score. As you review the report, make notes about your child’s test score and other questions you may have. Be sure to discuss your questions with your child's teacher when you attend a parent-teacher-student conference. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school.

The first Beta Club meeting of the year will be on Thursday, July 27th at 3:15pm. Each member does need to have 1 parent or guardian attend the meeting either in-person or virtually. If you plan to attend virtually, please make sure Mrs. Finn has your email address before Thursday.

A free immunization clinic for all Pender County Schools middle and high school students has been scheduled through a partnership with the Pender County Health Department.

The free clinic will take place in the auxiliary gym at Heide Trask High School on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 8 am until noon.

While this clinic is only for middle and high school students who need the T-DAP and meningitis vaccination, remember, other vaccinations are required by the state (fact sheet https://5il.co/1pttk, Spanish - https://5il.co/1pttj). Plan ahead with your doctor's office or clinic to ensure your child is up to date on their immunizations ahead of the 2023-2024 school year.

Please contact your healthcare provider or school nurse if you have questions.

Below are flyers with information regarding Kindergarten and Seventh grade immunization requirements. Please see Nurse Bain should you have questions.

Students who arrive after 7:45 will be considered tardy and will need to pick up a "grab and go" breakfast. Students are asked to go to the cafeteria first, then to class. Students will never be denied an opportunity to eat breakfast. However students who arrive late will be expected to eat breakfast in class.

We are working to speed up the morning car line so that our students can be in the building on time. Please help us to keep a sense of urgency in the mornings by saying good bye quickly, and dropping your child off as soon as you stop within the distance of a cone. We will also be bringing the car line up to the flagpole area so that we can have more students exit their cars at once. Some parents like to ride alongside their child and watch them go in. This slows down the process significantly and is not necessary, as the children are supervised and safe when coming into the building. Once your child is dropped off please exit quickly. We are hopeful these small but important changes will improve our efficiency with car line.

Thank you for sharing your child with us, and have an awesome weekend!
