There is definitely a sense of family when it comes to small schools and Pender Early College High School (PECHS) is a prime example of this. On Wednesday September 27, 2023, the students and staff of PECHS said their final goodbyes to their principal Christie Brown. Students and staff gathered in the courtyard with a sign that said “Congratulations” which was covered with messages from students and staff. The ceremony ended with hugs and a few tears from teachers and students. Mrs. Brown began her career as a math teacher and then earned her administration degree to become a principal. As her last day quickly approached, Mrs. Brown said “she wouldn’t want to end it at any other place.” Incoming principal, Daniel Sidor, said “Ms Brown is not only a great principal, but also a great mentor. It has been an honor to work alongside her. She definitely leaves a positive impact on our school community.” Schools like PECHS were built under the New Schools framework and still model the original design principles which have made them so successful. One of those design principles is personalization. Being a spectator in the courtyard, you can see how this centerfold. On behalf of the entire PECHS community, we want to congratulate Mrs. Brown for her service not only at our school, but for all of her contributions in education. Enjoy retirement and that grandbaby!
