We hope everyone had a great first week of school and a great long weekend!
As we continue to work out transportation, please have students out at bus stops in the morning 10-15 minutes before their assigned time. Times for pick up may continue to vary until all students have been added to the routes. We also ask that there is a 10-15 min grace period in the afternoons.
Admin met with students this Friday and completed mandatory bus evacuation drills and went over schoolwide expectations for how to be a Super SOARing Eagle. When students arrive at school they either go straight to breakfast or if they are not eating, they go straight to class. The announcements begin at 7:45 and right after instruction begins.
Please send in RSVPs for Grandparents Breakfast and Curriculum Night. Grandparents breakfast is $5 per plate. K-5 will be from 7:20-8:00 and PK Grandparents breakfast is from 8:30-9:15.
If your child has received an invitation for our tutoring program, please return those permission slips as well.
School hours are from 7:45 until 2:45 and we are teaching bell to bell. If your child is late, a parent or guardian will have to sign them in at the office. If you must sign your child out early, we ask that you do so by 2:15.
We would like to invite you this Wednesday to our first SIT meeting. We will be reviewing our school goals for this year.
We hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Part of bus safety for students was participating in a bus evacuation drill. We are safe SOARing Eagles!

Today during Specials, all classes met in the gym to hear Ms. Ellington share the beginning of the year presentation, "Super SOARing Eagle Behavior" about being a Super Eagle around the Eagle's Nest. Everyone also watched the bus safety videos.

Meet our new 5th grade science teacher ... Mrs. McEntee! Yes! Mrs. McEntee moved hallways from 1st grade and has taken over the new science curriculum with the 5th graders this year. Today, the 5th graders are going over states of matter and using their senses to observe. Do you know your states of matter? (PS. Yes, students are allowed to write on some of the desks in school now.) :) #handsonlearning #onepender

Good Evening Malpass Corner! Just wanted to send a reminder to check blue folders tonight. There is information about Grandparents Breakfast and our Curriculum Night🦅

The beginning of the year means reviewing all procedures in the first few days of school. Today, we had our first fire drill of the year. Our Eagles did great!

3rd day of school... and we have a few lost and found items .... 3 jackets, 2 water bottles and a hat! Parents, do you recognize these items? If so, please contact your child's teacher. Unfortunately, by the end of the year, we usually have 2 coat racks FULL of wonderful items that are donated because no one claims them. The best way to help us support your student is to label all items so that when we find them, we can return them. (We did have a 3rd water bottle that was found and because the parent labeled it, we were able to reunite the water bottle with the student. The student started smiling really big when the water bottle was returned!). Whenever you come to school, please check the lost and found area.

🎈 It was a joyful start to the school year at Malpass Corner Elementary! 🏫✨ Excitement filled the air as students stepped into their classrooms, ready to learn and make new friends. From big smiles to eager minds, our students and teachers are all set for an amazing year ahead!
Let’s make this a fantastic year, Malpass Corner! 📚🎉 #OnePender

This year, our cafeteria is running "The Golden Spatula" competition between classes. For the first day of school, Mrs. White's FIRST GRADE class was the winner! Congrats Mrs. White's Eagles! Way to SOAR in the cafeteria! We will post monthly winners and see which class earns the Golden Spatula the most!

All systems GO! From the start of the school day until the end of the school day, staff are always available to support students and ensure the Eagles Nest is the Best Place to Be!! #onepender #schoolisbetterwhenwearetogether

Workdays aren't just for classroom preparations... #ProjectAdam #onepender

📚🍟 Fries for School Supplies is Back! 🍟📚
We are excited to announce that for the second year in a row, our local McDonald’s owner-operators are hosting the Fries for School Supplies fundraiser in our school district!
Last year, over $110,000 was raised for our area schools, and we’re aiming to do even more this year! 🎉
From August 26th to 30th, McDonald’s will donate 10% of sales from all a la carte Fries to help support our schools. It’s a delicious way to contribute to our community! 🙌

Good Evening MCES Families,
Welcome to the 24-25 School Year. Open House was an incredible evening! It was great to see everyone and for you to meet the new SOARing Eagle Staff. We have worked hard building an awesome, dedicated, talented team!
Please have students out at bus stops in the morning 10-15 minutes before assigned time. With the drivers learning their routes, children being added to stops and Kindergarten staggered enrollment, pick up times may vary. We also ask that there is a 10-15 min grace period in the afternoons for the same reasons.
Student drop off begins at 7:20. Students can either go straight to breakfast if they are eating or to their classrooms if they are not. The tardy bell rings at 7:45 and students will have to have an adult come to the office and sign them in. If your child is a car rider and eats breakfast, please have them here by 7:30 to ensure they are able to get breakfast, eat and report to class by 7:45. At 7:40, students will be given a to-go breakfast to take to class with them, to ensure they are not late to begin their day of learning. Breakfast and lunch are free for all of our students again this year.
PK parent drop off begins at 7:30. PK has their own pull up area in the front circle of the school. The PK staff will help get PK kiddos out of their cars. Please do not pass other cars dropping off to get to the PK pull up area. This is very dangerous, you will have to wait until your turn to pull up.
Kindergarten families, please ensure their your Kindergartener has had the appropriate shots and that we have those on record. If this is not completed, students will be excluded from school as per state guidelines.
How can you support this year?! Please help us achieve the district and school student attendance goal of 95% by having your student here everyday. Attendance is vital to student learning and success! It is also vital for our school growth and achievement. Please join our PTO and/or our monthly School Improvement/Parent Advisory Meetings. More information coming in the blue take home folders Thursday.
This summer we have worked diligently on planning our family events, including events with West Pender and Pender High! #WestsideRising. Look for a “Save the Date Flier” to come home Thursday in the blue take-home folders. You will see information regarding our upcoming Grandparents Breakfast Sept 13th and our Back to School Curriculum Night.
We are looking forward to collaborating with you to make our school year a SOARing success! We hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Respectfully,
Avery Ellington, Principal

Twas the night before the 24-25 school year begins and all through the halls ... classrooms are ready, pencils are sharpened, Chromebooks are charged, the lawn has been cut, breakfast & lunch is free for students... The Eagle's Nest is ready for our Eagles! Parents, please tuck your students in tonight so they'll get a good night's sleep! See you at 7:20 tomorrow morning (tardy bell rings at 7:45...)

Its so good having life back in the hallways again! The energy we feel tonight makes us excited for the 24-25 school year! (4:00 - 6:00 tonight - come on out to the Eagle's Nest!) #onepender

Open House has started! 4:00-6:00 - happening now! We are looking forward to seeing our Eagle families this evening as we prepare to start the 24-25 school year on Monday. #SOARing #onepender
