Good evening Team Titan.
This is Michael Taylor, your principal, at Heide Trask High School. I am emailing this evening with our weekly updates.
We appreciate our students arriving on time and ready to learn each day. Please continue to encourage our students to make good choices and be good citizens.
Student academic progress can be checked weekly. If you do not already check PowerSchool, let us know how we can help you access the parent portal so you can always access your student’s information. If you have concerns or questions about grades, please email the teacher as soon as possible to discuss those concerns. Being on top of those concerns now will help ensure a successful rest of the year for your student. Please encourage your student to finish strong.

On Friday, April 22nd, students in grades 7 - 12 will have the opportunity to participate in Pender County Schools' first Job Shadowing Day! Job Shadow Day allows students to gain first-hand information about the workplace and explore the possibilities for their future careers. It’s an opportunity for Pender County Schools’ students to make connections between school and the real-world. It's recommended that students and families network with friends, family, and neighbors in an effort to find a placement in a career of their interest. If students need assistance in arranging for an individual placement, please have him/her contact the Career Development Coordinator at their respective school. Applications can be picked up from the CDC. This day will be coded as an excused 'educational opportunity' upon students sending the required 'Thank You' correspondence. Transportation to the experience must be arranged by the parent/student. Job Shadow Day aims to:
- provide students with an up-close look at what a "real job" is like,
- help students see the connection between what they learn in the classroom and what they will need to achieve their goals,
- show students that they have choices in life,
- motivate students to achieve,
- and make a difference in the life of a student by giving that student a new vision for their future.
Please remember, if a student in your household has a Covid symptom and/or is awaiting Covid test results, stay home and contact the school nurse immediately. Nurse Chewning’s email is jessica_chewning@pender.k12.nc.us. PCS schools nurses will follow the NC Strong Schools Toolkit in terms of exclusion from school.
