[Burgaw, NC] — C.F. Pope Elementary is thrilled to announce the launch of its Accelerated Reader (AR) program, an innovative reading initiative designed to encourage students to develop strong reading skills, improve comprehension, and enjoy a wide variety of books. The program, which officially kicks off on Monday, December 2 aims to create a fun and engaging reading environment for students in grades K-5.
AR is a proven educational tool that combines personalized reading with an interactive quiz system. Students will be able to read books at their own level and then take short quizzes to test their understanding of the story. As they complete quizzes, students will earn points based on their performance, which will help them track their progress toward reading goals.
"We are excited to provide our students with an opportunity to take charge of their reading journey," said, Brittany Moore, Principal of C.F. Pope Elementary. "The Accelerated Reader program will not only enhance their reading abilities but also inspire a lifelong love of reading. It’s a fantastic way to motivate our young learners to set and achieve their own reading goals."
How Accelerated Reader Works
The AR program works by assigning each student a personalized reading level based on their abilities. With thousands of books available in the AR system, children can select books that are appropriate for their level and interests. After finishing a book, they take an online quiz to check their comprehension. Successful completion of the quiz earns them points, and students can track their progress as they reach milestones and achieve new goals.
Setting Goals and Earning Rewards
In addition to improving reading skills, AR fosters a sense of accomplishment and excitement around reading. Each student will set individual reading goals, and teachers will be able to track their progress. As students reach their milestones, they will be rewarded with certificates, prizes, and recognition. The school is also planning to host fun competitions and challenges to motivate students to read even more.
"We want to make reading a rewarding and enjoyable experience for our students," said Amy Borders, the school’s Media Coordinator. "By earning points and rewards, students can see the direct connection between their efforts and their success. It’s a great way to encourage them to keep reading and learning."
A Partnership Between School and Home
To ensure the success of the program, the school is also encouraging parental involvement. Parents are encouraged to read with their children at home, track their progress on the AR Log, and help set reading goals. The school is planning to send home a guide for parents to understand how the AR system works and how they can support their child's reading at home.
"This is just the beginning," added Ms. Moore. "We can’t wait to see how much our students will achieve in the months ahead. The AR program is all about helping children grow into confident readers, and we’re looking forward to watching them reach new heights!"
