On Wednesday, December 4th, students at Cape Fear Middle School got a wonderful opportunity many students do not get the privilege of getting, an author visit from a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author of Science Fiction and Fantasy Books and a former North Carolina public school teacher.

Over past few months, Scott Reintgen, who currently lives in Cary, has travelled around the country to bookstores and schools promoting his new novel "The Last Dragon on Mars." As Mr. Reintgen introduced himself, his family, other written books he has written, and talked about his writing process, the students listened intently. At the end of his presentation, students were given time to ask Mr. Reintgen questions. Many hands were raised and asked thought provoking questions from how does he comes up with his ideas (which he showed the students the numerous ideas he has come up with and stored in the reminder application of his phone) to how he researches for his novels.

After the Q and A section of his presentation, each student was able to get a personalized book from the author himself, another opportunity many students do not get the privilege of at the middle school level.

All this was made possible by the the NC Arts Council- Grassroots Arts Program Grant. Thank you for the role you played in bringing an author to Cape Fear Middle School.
