One Book One School

Cape Fear Elementary School is kicking off its 2022 “One Book, One School” program, in which the entire school reads the same book at the same time. This year students and staff will be reading Wonder by RJ Palacio. The reading initiative is designed to promote literacy from the school to the home. The program was organized by our Media Coordinator Melissa Taylor and your child’s teacher will be sharing information with you each week.

“Wonder” tells the story of August “Auggie” Pullman, who was born with facial differences, as he struggles with the transition from homeschooling to a traditional school.

What is One Book, One School?

A reading event where everyone (students, parents, siblings, teachers, principals, staff members) all read the same book and discuss it together!

It’s like a giant book club!

How does it work?

Each child and staff members will receive a copy of the book.

There will be activities and discussions at school about the book.

Teachers will let families know what they will be reading each week so they can read together with their students at home too!

There are 8 Parts in the book. It should take 8 weeks to complete the book. Some classes may take less time and others may need more time.

We encourage each family to read the book aloud together and send photos in from home so we can display them on our school bulletin board in the media center. Send your photos to melissa_taylor@pender.k12.nc.us

We hope you enjoy the book that has been chosen this year and happy reading!
