Rhonda Smith places a medal around the neck of a student as an award

PENDER COUNTY, NC - Pender County Schools is happy to announce Rhonda Smith as the new Principal of Cape Fear Elementary School. Mrs. Smith brings more than 25 years of experience in education to her new role, along with a passion for creating a positive and nurturing learning environment.

A proud native of Sampson County, Mrs. Smith joined Pender County Schools in 2020. She has served as Assistant Principal at both Heide Trask High School and Pender High School, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting students and staff. Her diverse educational journey began with earning an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Sampson Community College, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Government from Campbell University, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University, and an Administrator’s license from UNC Charlotte.

“I am incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Principal of Cape Fear Elementary,” said Mrs. Smith. “It is my mission to ensure that every student has a positive and rewarding educational experience here at CFE. Together, we will work to build a nurturing and successful learning environment. Let’s go Cubs!”

Mrs. Smith is deeply committed to fostering collaboration among students, staff, parents, and the broader community. Her leadership style reflects a dedication to ensuring that every child receives the support and resources needed to thrive.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Mrs. Smith and her husband Ralph have four grown children and six grandchildren, who lovingly call her “Gigi.” In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends at White Lake, NC.
